Once again I'm having trouble upgrading NPVR. I tried to stop NPVR before upgrading but I don't think I did it correctly. (How do you stop it correctly in Windows 8.1? In Windows 7 I had no problems).

Now I cannot record or watch live TV. Last time the problem was that NPVR was not allowed through the firewall but as you can see here it seems that it's allowed now:

I have attached my logs.

The NextPVR installer creates a shortcut called "Stop NPVR Service". Run that and it'll stop everything.

You've got NextPVR configured to use a device called 'Cinergy HTC Stick Digital Tuner (DVB-C)', but according to Windows that device is not currently connected to you machine. If you think it is connected, it's probably the driver having issues and you'll most likely find removing it, waiting a few seconds, then reinserting it will make it visible to Windows again.

I've tried to reinsert it but no changes. I keep getting this message:

The 'Cinergy HTC Stick Digital Tuner' works in other programs.

The message indicates the NextPVR Recording Service isn't running. Try running the 'Start NPVR Service' shortcut.

I don't have any NPVR shortcuts. However I can start NPVR and then see this:

But sadly I cannot record or watch live TV.

The Windows 8.1 full screen Start menu will just be hiding them from you. If you press the Windows key, and type 'Start NPVR Service' then you should find it.

If for any reason you cant find it, then you can always press the Windows key, type 'services.msc' and run that. This is the Windows 'Services' control panel. Find NPVR Recording Service in the list, right click -> Start.

Now it's working!
Not sure why. I tried to restart the recording service but I did that 10 times already without success. Anyways thank very much for your patience, sub.

One more question: Before upgrading in the future should I type 'services.msc', run that and find "Stop NPVR Service"?

Great.

You're best to use the 'Stop NPVR Service' shortcut if you can, because it does two things. It stops the 'NPVR Recording Service', and terminates the NTray.exe. If you instead just stop it from services.msc, then you'll also need to manually close NTray.exe.
