I have a HDHomerun 2 tuner ATSC box on my network. The software found it and let me scan it and the first thing I noticed was that the channels all said they were SD, where I was expecting HD on a lot of them. The next problem was when I tried to watch TV live and it flashes some message to the screen so fast that I can't read it, and I don't get any TV. I did create the C:\Temp directory that the first error gave me, that one was a bit easier to read.

I would be willing to donate via paypal if I can get this software to do the job that Microsoft use to do before they took it away in Windows 10.

I own a license for PlayonTV, and while it is very good in many ways, it will not record from my HDHomeRun, and I have a very steady and beautiful picture from a tower mounted high gain yagi. I am a Ham Radio operator and I have a tower next to my home. That makes having a good spot for a TV antenna no problem. I use to use a rotator on the TV antenna, but I found that there is one position that gets the far stations well, and the strong stations I get pointing ion any direction, so it all works out. The coax is RG6 and it goes to a 4 way amplified splitter in the attic, and that feeds 4 TV's, with my HDHomerun being one of them.

I will look more inot the software after I hear back from whatever anyone will tell me from this first post.

I did try to search the forum for HDHomeRUn, but I either did it wrong, or it did not find anything and I did it right.

When I click on Live TV, it now flashes "Please Wait" to the screen and nothing happens.

Thanks for any help with this, Joe

Where was it saying they were SD? Is "SD" part of the channel name?

If you're talking about the service type, quite often in North America they just set the metadata to "MPEG2", rather than "MPEG2 HD", since it makes no difference. This would cause them to be show as "MPEG-2 SD" in the scan results. If they're really HD, you'll get them in HD when you watch them.

If you can try watching live tv, then zip and attach your logs, I'll take a look.

I recommend that you use recording and playback to get everything up and running. There are fewer variables than with Live TV so it's easier to diagnose problems. Setting up Live TV will be "easy" once recording and playback is up and running.

Did you see this ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post480931

Either way ... Live TV or recording and playback ... please post the logs with a description of what you did and the times that you did so that we know where to look in the logs. Thank you.

Thanks, I did read a bit and now know that I need a decoder. I have owned Hauppauge WinTV, and a few others, so I have the WinTv with me now and I would like to know if I can only get the decoder by installing the whole program, or can I extract the decoder and put it where ever it belongs and register it with the system manually?

The version of the disk is 4.6A, if that matters. I am using Windows 10.

Update: I can't install the Hauppauge program without installing one of their cards. So unless someone can tell me a way to do it, i will have to find some other drivers. The reason being that this is a small form factor PC, and has not PCI slots of any type. I might have one that is USB, but I would have to find it.

Thanks for the help, Joe

A lot of people get the SAF6 codec pack from Hoborg (send him a forum PM for the unlocked version) as detailed in the sticky at the top of the forum. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...RE-POSTING

I did get the drivers to load by finding my USB Hauppauge WinTV, plussing it in and selecting "Load the Drivers" from the setup screen on the installation disk. After the installation I removed the USB device and it appears that I can get TV now.

What is missing is the EPG data. I got my EPG data when I tried an iView 3500STBII, but I had two of those fail in the first day of use, so they went back. The point being that they had no problem with EPG data, but I'm getting nothing in NextPVR.

The next thing I weil try after fixing whatever is causing the EPG data to be blank, will be to schedule recordings.

So what causes a blank EPG? Is it a setting, or a missing driver?

Thanks, Joe

What are you using for EPG source? Digital broadcasts can include EPG data, but most broadcasters in the US only include a few hours of data. So for a DVR, the over-the-air (OTA) EPG data in the US is basically useless.

You will find on the forums here that most everyone will strongly recommend using the Schedules Direct EPG service. It is extremely inexpensive at $25/year, and they have a free trial period (7 days, I think). Their data will be the most useful since it includes items like season/episode numbers, unique episode IDs (for eliminating duplicate recordings), new show indicators (for recording only new episodes), etc.

If you hit the 'Update EPG' button it'll probably pull in the next 6 hours or so of listings. Unfortunately that's all that broadcast with ATSC in the US, which is next to useless for PVR use. See above comment about Schedules Direct to get a proper EPG (with artwork etc).
