Alternate MPEG2 decoder: how to select?

I installed NextPVR, it reconized mu TV-card and scanned my channels.
To view, i read the suggestion to install MPEG2 decoders, so i installed Cyberlink 11 and the recommended SAF codecs pack.

But again, even after a restart en reinstall, in settings a can only choose the LAV video decoder (which crashed) and the PDR MPEG muxer (which give a blank screen).

So i know i have to install extra decoders. I have done that, but i can't select them.
What do i wrong?

The LAV video decoder does not work well with NextPVR for some people. The LAV audio decoder is okay.

The decoders in recent versions of Cyberlink software are locked and will only work within the Cyberlink software. I recommend that you send a forum private message to Hoborg, the author of the SAF installer, and ask for the "unlcoked" version of SAF. The "unlocked" version contains the "best" decoders.

Thanks for your reply! So there are no free available decoders for windows 8.1/10 to use?
Why is this so complex? I presume everyone should have this problem when using nexpvr. And de reference to de SAF codecs pack doesn't make sense when when you install the locked version of SAF.

You can install ffdshow - you need to explicitly enable MPEG2 when running the installer (since it defaults to disabled). Alternatively you can go into the decoders settings after install to enable MPEG2.

Unfortunately to legally distribute decoders cost real money (MPEG-LA licensing etc), so I can't just supply decoders with NextPVR.

You may also need to install an h264 decoder for some of your channels you forgot to upload logs.

I don't use SAF on Windows 10 since it might not be legal in all countries. Instead I use the free Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder for mpeg2 and h264. Very easy and nothing to install but not everyone gets m2v working like I do. I use the k-lite codec pack to install ffdshow and LAV.

Clear. I didn't know even free decoders charge money for bundling them with nextpvr.
Maybe an idea to point to ffshow as decoder. It works for me.
Thanks for de great support

It's not so much that the manufacturers of the decoder charge you to bundle them (they might), but you also need to pay patent costs to the MPEG Licensing Authority etc to stay legal. To cover the patent costs for all the codecs you might encounter in live tv around the world is about $12 per user. The NextPVR obviously cant cover that, so we just rely on reusing decoders you've already got on your machine.
