I finally bit the bullet, moved away from GPPVR (!) and migrated to NPVR running on Windows 10 (64 it).

I have two capture devices. Both are USB, one is a DVB-T HVR-900H and the other a HD PVR (no tuner). The DVB-T tuner appears to work fine but I am having problems with the EPG on the HD PVR.

Since it's not a tuner per se I plan to use this to capture from my STB via S-Video and control the STB using USB-UIRT (that has yet to be worked out). So I created a test channel on the HD PVR and indicated that the EPG was coming from a XML listing. This same listing used to work fine on GBPVR and also NPVR on Windows XP. But when I ask to update the EGP, after scanning the UHF channels NextPVR has stopped working when apparently trying to read the XML file.

The attached is a sample of the XML file I am using. The actual file has about 250K lines if that is causing the problem.

Any ideas what could be going on here? Any logs I can post?

Thanks
Graham

Settings --> About has a button that will zip the logs for you. Log location is described here ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alledParts

I like to see decisions that are taken with care. I hope that you don't regret the switch from GBPVR. It would be a shame if you thought that you had been a bit too hasty. Big Grin

Thanks Graham. Here are the logs.

Interestingly these XML files came from somebody who regularly grabs EPG data from a satellite feed and it has worked fine in GBPVR. It seems to hang though in NPVR. Interestingly I managed to get Epg Collector working on my DVB-T USB tuner and the XML files it creates are fine. The trouble is it only show Freeview channels and I need EPG data for Sky Cable channels.

In case you wanted to look at the XML file it's here

No regrets yet about moving. Apart from that issue another issue I have to resolve is why recordings done on my HD PVR box via s-video from my Vodafone STB have a grainy picture

I wonder if it's a PAL/NTSC thing since this is a US HD-PVR but they say they call handle all fo

I can't help with satellite EPG ... a lot of UK folk are moving to Schedules Direct now that the Radio Times feed has shutdown. It costs money but it works good and its integrated with NextPVR.

There are HDPVR and Analog settings in confiig.xml. Some editing of these settings might improve the result.

I use EPG Collector to create separate Freeview and Freesat EPG xml files from the broadcast signal. I have not seen any Sky EPG software but have never looked as don't have a Sky subscription.

I don't think you will get decent quality using s-video signal. RGB if available should give better quality.

Actually in my sitjuation I have the EPG data already sourced from the satellite. I just can't load it as it causes NPVR to crash. I was hoping you might have some insight there.

On the HD PVR side I see a similar albeit less pronounced moire effect on recoding using the Hauppauge capture tool since it might be an artefact of s-video. The cable box also has component video out so I might try that. Since I am not recording HD channels I don't have to worry about HDCP (well I don't think so).

Can you hit the Update EPG button, then zip and attach the npvr.log file? Your last set of logs did not show this activity happening.

Sure = here it is.

The first one bad is when I tried from the GUI - it ran for a while scanning the satellites and then not responding during update.

The second one (good) ran from executing nextpvr from the command line nextpvr -updateepgonly and that seemed to work. Strange

I just took a look through the log, and can see an error message in the bad log, but the cause isn't immediately opposite to me. I'm out of town for the next few days, but if you've still got the problem after that, bump the thread and I'll help you through fixing it.

It seems to be working okay from the CLI which is what I do each night so it's not a problem for me not at the moment. That is a bit strange only that with the same XML listing file it hangs if I update from the GUI
