NPVR 3.7.7 Windows 10

Twice in the last week (30 July & 2 Aug) my recording service has stopped. Nothing shows in the Windows event log for the stops, only the starts. For the 2 Aug event, my available/failed recordings show

Available: Tues, Aug 02, 2016 5:59PM - 7:00PM Untold Stories of the E.R. S8E9
Recording error: Recording service was stopped during recording
[Video file is present and is about the right length. The metadata xml file is missing.]

Failed: Tues, Aug 02, 2016 6:59PM - 7:30PM Cry Wolfe S3E3
Recording Error: Recording service was not running at recording time
[No video file exists.]

The last entry in the NRecord.log is at 18:59:02.458
The NPVR.log continues on until I restarted the computer at 21:07:56.502

I don't see anything suspicious in the logs, although it seems to be looking for art for "Untold Stories of the E.R." over and over.

I've turned off all the art related options (I only use NPVR for recording) and added some restart options to the property page of the NPVR Recording Service. I started a task running every 5 min to check for the recording service and warn me if it's gone - so far no failure.

I archive my logs tagged with the time of the last entry. They are uploaded

Thanks,
Jeff

Try creating a c:\temp directory and next time it happens post the c:\temp\crash.mdmp.

Crashed again today, unfortunately before I read your message. Restarted and crashed twice more (max allowed by service properties). Fool that I am, I rebooted before checking the logs. NPVR.log was overwritten by restart. NRecord.log also overwritten, versions .1 and .3 missing, .2 shows 15 seconds from 2nd restart to start of 3rd try recording show starting at 1800, no data in any of the files (log uploaded). There was another show starting at 1800. It also has 3 versions, each with some data. Recording should start 2 min early. First file timestamp is 1759, duration 3:16; 2nd stamp is 1803, duration 0:44; 3rd stamp is 1805, duration 0:45.

I've created c:\temp and I've removed the restart on the recording service so as not to trash the logs.

I upgraded to windows 10 and npvr version 3.7.7 on 17 July. There's 800 GB free on the recording drive. Had no problems at all until 30 July. I'm in the USA, have two HDHR HomeRun-Prime cablecard tuners.

Three crashes within 30 minutes today. First at 6PM, second at 6:16, third at 6:38. I've uploaded the logs and crash dumps from each. In the 3rd folder (crash3) I included the application and system event logs and the text from the last WER report. The file video-file-times.txt shows creation and last modification times for the 3 shows that were recording along with the video length or file size.

After the 3rd crash I didn't reboot until around 8:25 PM. The recording service didn't fully start. The event log says it started at 8:26:13 but the tray monitor still had its dotted outline. I rebooted again, this time doing a shutdown (rather than "restart"). Service started and is still running 4 hours later.

There are no hardware errors in the windows logs, scandisk is clean, last windows update was on 18 July.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I had no crashes with the old file after my last submission (6 Aug 18:36). Installed new file 7 Aug 11:47. No problem until today 9 Aug 12:59. Saved logs and dump file and restarted. Crashed again immediately on start. Repeat, same result. Only one recording was in progress, started 12:58. Tried old file, same result. Removed power from cablecard tuners and no crash.

I'm going to put a new drive in this machine and install windows 7 with most recent npvr. Should I use your new NetSourcePush or the old one? Any other patches?

I've attached logs and dumps from three of today's crashes.

Thanks,
Jeff

Found 3.6.6. Now running 3.6.6 on windows 10.

Please email me if you come up with a possible fix and I'll test it. I'll p.m. my email to sub.

Thanks, Jeff

Tried 3.8.3 on windows 7 pro. It also crashes with similar looking log files to 3.7.7 (lost the logs, sorry).

I have two HD-HomeRun Prime cablecard tuners connected through a switch to a dedicated ethernet port. I use a second port to connect the system to the home network and outside world. Might this be the cause of the crash? Attached are the files from my earlier report on 11 Aug: version 3.7.7 windows 7.

Thanks,
Jeff
