I am using an HDHomeRun (model HDHR3-US with the latest 20150406 firmware and 20150826 Windows software under Windows 10). I am not sure if my problem is the same as this thread, but it seems close. I have a problem where a scheduled show specifically on physical channel 49-3 (I have not been able to produce this problem on any other channel) will record only about 0.5-1s and then not record any more. At happens about 50% of the time with scheduled recordings, but I never have a problem if I just tune live to the channel. There is no indication of any failure in any of the logs, aside from the fact that I have noted in every case of a failure the last entry in the ndigitalhost-20.log.1 will be the indication of a StartStream for the show, and then it switches to a new file (ndigitalhost-20.log) and there is never a matching StopStream. I have been trying to debug this for a couple of weeks now and it is quite a challenge.

I have added an example from last night's test case (in this case the show "Elementary.S01E22.Risk.Management") that shows the two log files for ndigitalhost-20 so it can be seen there is a StartStream in one file without the corresponding StopStream. All the other logs are attached as well, along with the < 1s of show it recorded and a MediaInfo dump of the video file (showing it got enough of it to have a valid media file). I hope I am just missing something subtle in the log files. I also showed a capture of the HDHomeRun Config for that channel that indicates it is normally a strong channel.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, suggestions, musings, etc.

Cheers,

That's odd. Can't say I've heard of anything like that before.

Was this HDHR Config screenshot taken during the recording that stopped growing? Or was it a later attempt to view that channel?

Does the nrecord.exe / ndigitalhost process continue running in the background, or does one of these die?

What driver did you configure for using with the HDHR? I find if I use NextPVR some channels don't work.

Just out of curiosity, what is the correct setting for BDA Compatibility Mode when running 3.7.7 of NextPvr.

Thanks for the quick response. Actually that screen shot was during a good recording. But, I setup many test recordings and it just so happens a failed one just happened so I watched it as it progressed. I captured the HDHomeRun Config for that one. The behavior was that after the end of the show, when NPVR thought the show was now a "Ready Recording," the HDHomeRun never released the channel and kept "streaming" (but clearly to nowhere that was storing the data). In NRecord.log were the following lines:

2016-08-08 14:02:00.222 [DEBUG][9] Stopping recording (3944 on 20). Past end time of recording. 3
2016-08-08 14:02:00.338 [INFO][9] DigitalRecorder.StopStream() handle: 3

But the ndigitalhost-20.log file once again showed no StopStream to match. Attached is a screen capture of HDHomeRun Config while this was happening.

Very odd. It is almost like the HDHomeRun has lost communication with NPVR or the computer but neither know it.

And as to the question about the driver, when I installed NPVR it scanned my devices and found the HDHomeRun and added it. The driver version for the HDHomeRun on Windows is the latest (20150826). Hope that is what you were asking. If not, please let me know and I will try to add more details.

For a over a year everything has been working fine, and then this problem started a few weeks ago. Hmm.

Thanks again.

Not sure if the question on BDA Compatibility was directed to me, but here is a screen capture of my setup for NPVR 3.7.7:

Hi All,

Just checking back to see if anyone has any suggestions. I thought the problem had corrected itself as it has been a week or two without the "recording that never ends but is less than 1 second" problem, but I got another one this week.

Any thoughts would be welcome. And do add to what I wrote previously, the processes NDigital Host and NRecord do not got killed when this happens. Or if they do it is exceptionally briefly such that they restart before I see them disappear.

As always, I appreciate the help.

Cheers,

Did you try changing the BDA setting to Default?

Thanks, Martin. Not yet, but I will. Let me see if that helps and I will repost.

Alas, that did not work. I did a test recording with BDA Compatibility set to Default and it also exhibited the same problem.

Thanks for the idea, however. I am open to other thoughts.
