I am new to NextPVR just cut the cord a few days ago. I would like to know who all here is running NextPVR on a VM? If you are running a vm what are the specs of the vm? BTW I will be using HDHome run for the tuners.

You could (since you're using a network tuners), but it's not advised - video playback and stream processing can be crappy in a VM, not to mention transcoding if you're intending to watch in the web app or iOS app.

I haven't had any problem with an hdhr from a VM but make sure you use a desktop Windows because of BDA drivers. The biggest bottleneck will be disk io. Typical refurbished PC s with a Windows license for $150 will perform better.

You can. I use a windows 10 hyper v vm for my “server”. Client machines are real mostly for the playback capabilities.

The server doesn’t do a lot but some disk access

The advantage of having it as a vm is being able to easily back it up/make system changes and roll it back.
