Sorry for the dumb question.

I have the latest GB-PVR software and have no audio playing MPEG-2 files with AC3 sound. What is the easiest way to get it to work? I would rather not have to convert all video's to MP3, but if so what is the best freeware tool? I thought GB-PVR could transcode AC3 to MP3 in real time? If so, I can't figure out how to configure it. I have loaded AC3 codecs on my server, but no go. Any help would be appreciated.

How are you trying to play it - on your PC via software decoder? This should work, but it wont via the PVR350 or MVP.

This may sound silly, but are you sure there is no audio?

I ask because I have always had the problem w/ AC3 where is it *so* much lower than other audio codecs. It was only recently I realized I needed to tell it to take the other channels and make it 2 channel (w/ 5.1 I would sometimes get music and some sfx). Even then, I needed to boost the lvls by having the AC3 control panel.

Try playing it again, but jack the sound.

I was trying to play a MPEG-2 file which had AC3 sound on my MVP using GB-PVR. I thought ffdshow could trabscode the audio to a format the MVP would work with on the fly. Do I have to find a tool to change the audio to MP3 to play it through the MVP? My only other experience is with the D-link DSM-320 which has no problem with AC3 audio.

MPEG-2 files are passed unaltered to the MVP, which unfortunately isn't capable of playing AC3 audio.

Yes, you'd need to find a third party tool to convert these files before you can play them on your MVP. No, I dont have the name of a tool that will do this job for you.
