Extremely buggy running and crashing in NPVR client, but not as Kodi back end...

I use the NPVR client directly for things like channel mapping, adding an executable and setting attendant argument mapping. I am using the Hauppauge Colossus 2 video capture card for my picture from a STB. When selecting a channel from the guide the viewing is catastrophically buffer heavy and jumpy. Usually after less than two minutes NPVR crashes altogether. When using the NPVR as a Kodi back end however, I have little to know picture problems, although Kodi does crash occasionally (hard to say where the blame lies there though.

Where do I need to look in the NPVR client to amend the settings to get smooth viewing and what are the recommended settings to achieve this?

Recreate the problem then go to NextPVR --> Settings --> About and click the button to zip the logs then attach the logs to a post telling us what happened ... tell us the times that you startaed viewing and the time it went wrong and all that so we know where to look in the logs. Thanks.

Which NextPVR crashes - the client computer, or the server computer? Is it fine when used directly on the server?

Is this client using wired network, or wireless?

think i might have used confusing/inapproriate jargon...when i say client i am referring to just the software...so when i open NPVR on my desktop i have problems, but when i open Kodi using NPVR as a back end, I have no issues. runs fine for hours on end. will post the logs from the last crash shortly...
