I've been using WMC on Windows 7 SP1 for a long time, and want to make the switch to NextPVR.

Ideally I will get NextPVR working on the same machine to ease the transition.

I downloaded NextPVR onto my W7 machine. I ran it and no devices appeared. All I could see was an IPTV device. I have a Hauppauge dual-tuner DVB-T device in dual-tuner mode (as opposed to diversity) and a PCTV device (DVB-T2) installed.

Thinking this was perhaps WMC "grabbing" the tuners (although live TV was not running, and nothing was recording), I stopped the WMC Receiver and Scheduler services, and re-booted. Nothing, still.

I then took out my laptop (running Windows 10), installed the Hauppauge device, and installed NextPVR. Immediately it saw two tuners, presumably because it's a dual-tuner device. I didn't go any further than that with my laptop, as it seemed to identify an issue with the other machine.

Plugging the tuner back into my WMC PC, I created a new user profile, uninstalled the tuners, uninstalled NextPVR, and then re-installed both. Still, nothing.

I have attached the log files from NextPVR and I have also run the FilterCheck tool and attached that log file.

I don't understand what the error means, but at least my tuners are clearly being looked at.

The only thing I will say is that my WMC W7 machine must be a 3-4 year old installation and I have continually been modifying the experience. So there will be a lot of history on that installation.

Can anybody offer me any troubleshooting steps, or am I doomed to a re-installation of the O/S?

Having done some research, my overall intent is to use NextPVR as the back-end for Kodi or Emby, with Amazon Firesticks deployed to the house TVs instead of my current Linksys Media Extenders. The idea is that this current PC will become the media back-end network server and live TV provider/scheduler/recorder. Any thoughts on that welcome too!

Thanks in anticipation for your help which is much appreciated.

Weirdly the logs seem to show the device as being listed in your system, but it's not able to load them. Are they still actually functional in other software?

I suspect the latter...

That would be a shame. Yes, it just says IPTV. Do you think Media Centre is "grabbing" the tuners?

Or is this some registry weirdness perhaps? I've never installed NextPVR before.

Grateful for any other ideas.

No - I don't think so. I think something about your BDA subsystem is non-functional on this machine, which is why I asked if these devices are working in any other software (as a double check). I have no idea what you'd have to do to fix it.

There is two steps that normally happen. First it asks Windows for the list of device. This seems to work fine:
Quote:2018-09-22 16:33:53.879 [DEBUG][1] About to detect digital tuners
2018-09-22 16:33:53.879 [DEBUG][1] - 'PCTV 80e/290e/460e BDA 2875 TVTuner'
2018-09-22 16:33:53.879 [DEBUG][1] - 'PCTV 80e/290e/460e BDA 2875 TVTuner C'
2018-09-22 16:33:53.879 [DEBUG][1] - 'Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path0) '
2018-09-22 16:33:53.879 [DEBUG][1] - 'Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path1) '
Then it loads each device, to ask it what video standards they support. On your system, all the devices are failing to load:
Quote:2018-09-22 16:33:53.895 [DEBUG][1] FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path0)
2018-09-22 16:33:53.895 [DEBUG][1] FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path1)
2018-09-22 16:33:53.895 [DEBUG][1] FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: PCTV 80e/290e/460e BDA 2875 TVTuner

Normally you'd get messages like these instead:
Quote:2018-09-23 11:13:37.139 [DEBUG][1] About to check standards supported by 'Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA DVBT Tuner'

Yes, apologies for not answering your question. It is working fine in WMC.

Do you want me to try something else, like Hauppauge's WinTV or a.n.other.

I also have Emby installed so I thought I'd take a look at that. Interestingly it can't see the tuners either.

Pretty sure I've had that problem in the past.

I think I fixed it by uninstalling the Hauppauge device in Device Manager, rebooting and then letting Windows redetect and reinstall the drivers.

Thanks, but I tried that. Even tried the HWClear program from Hauppauge, but it still wouldn't work.

In the end, I've bought a new hard drive, popped it in, and put Windows 10 on. I got the drivers on, installed NextPVR, and it worked immediately.

Clearly some rubbish on my O/S.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Great - glad you got it sorted. Yeah, there was something screwed about with your BDA subsystem.
