Hi,

I am using a Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD usb stick with a built-in DVB-C tuner to watch unencrypted public digital cable tv. This has been working fine last month until Ziggo did some network maintainance in Amsterdam area.

Now whenever i start NextPVR i get black screens. I deleted the old channels, tried to scan the channels again, but i can't find any of them now. I was using the Ziggo Amsterdam profile before. Can someone please update the "Netherlands - Ziggo - Amsterdam (Noord-Holland).ini" file?

I have tried automatic scan and manual scan without luck (see screenshots). Last pic shows the channels i expect and when everthing was working fine.

Thank you for your help.

There probably isn't many Ziggo cable users. Your best bet might be to update the file in the C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Tuning\DVB-C directory yourself, assuming you can find any info on their new frequencies/symbolrate etc.

If you do update it, supply the new file and I'll include it with future releases.

Thanks for your response, but i got things working again.

In NextPVR i tried autoscan with region "Ziggo incl. @Home/Casema (NIT:5555)[1-4-15]" and could get some channels back, but still missing a lot.

Then i thought lets see what Hauppauge WinTV 8.5 software can find. So i installed the software and just scanned on the first entry "113-858 Mhz, 6900, 64+256QAM" which does a total full scan. I found all the tv channels (encrypted/public) and radio channels. A total of 352 channels with its frequencies (see included .csv file that i extracted from WinTV Access database).

With the known frequencies of the missing channels i just went back to NextPVR and did a manual scan on these missing
channels and added it. So i got my list of channels back again in NextPVR and its working.

Only thing i can't get working is the HD channels. I get a black screen in NextPVR for all HD channels. WinTV can display it fine, but is slow on switching channels and sometimes unstable. I have enabled GPU acceleration on both software, but NextPVR doesn't want to play the HD channels, so i am watching SD channels only. SD is MPEG2, HD is H264.

Hi, I had (have) the same issue, even before Ziggo worked on their network in Amsterdam. I use the HDHomeRun 4 channel network gadget. In my case the HDHomeRun finds 163 channels but NextVPR only 116/117/118/118 of them.

In 'Devices' in the Settings of NextPVR I double clicked a device, then chose 'All Countries' and 'All Frequencies (6.900MBd SR, QAM 256). This gives most channels (that I watch) although it doesn't list RTL4 and SBS9 for instance, while the native HDHomeRun app does list them. Nothing I do (selecting different 'All Frequencies' settings) gives me more channels.

Any ideas appreciated. I do not understand why NextPVR cannot find all the channels the HDHomeRun does.

Try placing the updated .ini file into C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Tuning\DVB-C, replacing the existing file of the same name. It is updated to use the frequencies+6900+QAM64, from your cvs file. Let me know how you get on.

If you make a recording of one of these channels, and play it back, do you then see video?

It'll almost certainly just come down to the scanning ini file for ziggo being out of date, and not having the correct frequencies. We don't have many users of these cable systems, and it's likely no one has provided an updated file when they've changed frequencies some time in the past.

Give the .ini file I posted above ago, and let me know how you get on.

Thanks.

By 'giving the ini file a go' I presume you mean selecting "Netherlands" and "Ziggo area Amsterdam (Noord-Holland) (43136)" in "Digital Recording Settings"? That's what doesn't work anymore. Using this file only gives a few non relevant entries. I opened the file and looked at the numbers, but I have no clue what they should be after the network update. I've been searching a lot but Ziggo isn't telling and even removed older post on their forum with this kind of information. Posts from users on this topic are usually over a year old.

Although I have no clue how this works, for me it feels strange that the HDHomeRun hardware and software have all the channels, is connected through the network to my PC but my PC can't find those channels. But that is probably me ;-)

As I said, by selecting 'All countries' and 'All Frequencies (6.900MBd SR, QAM 256)' I find most channels (118 out of 163), although Ziggo tells me to use QAM 64:

(Translated)
For Cable TV in your city you need the following frequency:

Frequentie: 16400, 164000 or 164
Network-ID: 4444 or 04444
Modulation: 64-QAM
Symbol speed: 6900

Your TV supplies the amount of zeros you need to add during installation.

Did you replace your existing .ini file with the new one I'd posted above (in post#4)

Whoops, senior moment! I *did* look, twice, for an .ini file in your post but didn't see it...

It works, thanks a million! NextVPR now finds 154 channels (and much faster), including RTL4 which I was looking for. The other I tried to find was SBS9 but it seems it is not found either by the HDHomeRun app, it's only listed in the EPG. I guess it's only broadcasted in HD and thus encrypted.

Thanks again.
