Channel tuning issue - Australia / Sydney

Hi Brains Trust,

I've been working on setting up a new HTPC using an Intel NUC and Kodi/NextPVR. I'm using a Hauppauge USB WinTV dual tuner.

The problem I'm hitting is tuning channels 9 and 10.

Kaffeine tunes all channels and I've resolved the various install issues around libc / dvb-apps for NextPVR / Kodi but now hitting this tuning issue.

Using the Kaffeine tuning information, I created a custom tuning file in /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/ to target the specific frequencies that Kaffeine picked up, but still I was not able to get the channels for 9 and 10 tuned through NextPVR.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to resolve?

Is there a way to manually load the channel configuration from the conf file in .NPVR-data/adapter0-DVB-T-channels.conf?

I've also been able to open the database with sqlite3 and am considering just updating into that directly.

Can you zip and attach the logs showing a scanning? This log doesn't show it. You can use the 'zip my logs' button (Settings->General page) to make sure the logs are flushed to disk etc.

Sorry no, it can't do that. It needs to have scanned in the app to ensure database records etc are created.

Does dvbv5-scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/xxxxxx find these missing channels? The scanner in NextPVR works very similar to this scanner (which is one of the example apps they use to demonstrate the libdvbv5 api)

Attached updated logs.

I cleared all channels and rescanned from scratch. Scan used auto-Australia data and loaded only SEVEN and SBS channels. This was started around 07:00:00 in the logs.

Log from dvbv5-scan is attached. It shows that it is locking onto the frequencies for all channels, but no data is read on section filter for the frequency of NINE and TEN. Other stations were scanned successfully.

Ultimately that'll likely be the reason NextPVR isn't finding anything either, since they're using the same library calls to look for channels on each frequency.

If you're able to capture a 1 minute full transport stream, and put it some where like dropbox or one drive, I'll download it and try it with my signal generator, to see if I can get it working.

So it looks like I have it working, although I'm not sure how I did this or why it is now working.

I rescanned with dvbv5-scan -a 1 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/au-Miranda and using adapter 1 all stationed tuned.

VIa NextPVR though it was still giving inconsistent scan results and missing NINE, TEN and sometimes ABC also on adapter 0.

When scanning on adapter 1, it would cycle through the frequencies quickly and then rescanning on adapter 0 would also not work.

I deleted the .NPVR-data directory and started from scratch. Ran Chrome in private browsing mode and then rescanned again and after the third go on adapter 0 all channel tuned though.

Attached are the logs.

I'd be interested to know whether this is something environmental with my system or if its an issue with the way that those channels I had through with are transmititing.

Unfortunately these are partial transport streams (only containing a single channel). I needed a full transport stream, which included multiple channels in the one file, any extra metadata on that frequency. On Windows you can use TSCapture to grab all this data. I haven't done it on Linux, but I think you use tzap, then 'cat /dev/dvb/adapter1/dvr0 > capture.ts'.

To be honest, I'm not sure what would account from that behaviour.

Well last night I was able to view the channel via the NextPVR web player but not working so well this morning.

I've put the usb tuner onto my old Windows HTPC and installed tscapture to capture the full stream.

Even on Windows, TSCapture took around 6 or 7 attempts before all stations scanned. ABC and TEN both proving difficult via Windows too (including via my other tuner card) which is making me think its a reception issue?
