Hello,

Can somebody explain how timeshift should be behaving in V5 and what this this "Minutes" Setting next to the Live TV Buffer Directory setting n General Settings page?
From what I have understood so far, there are still 3 files used  for buffer. How does the "Minutes" setting affect that? Does this mean for instance that if I have set this to 60,
that all three files provide overall 60 minutes buffer or something else?
Are we supposed to be able to let's say go back to the middle of file one while current pointer is in file two or three, meaning all the way to 60 for instance minutes before?

Thanks and regards

Yes the time is the total buffer time, ignore how many files there are. If you do change this and use Kodi you do need to restart Kodi to see the change.

Also not since you have talked about using transcoding with Kodi there is not timeshifted transcoding in Kodi you would have to use the browser for that.

Many thanks Martin, I though as much. Can you also possibly provide me with any steps to verify whether time shifting is working ok or not? I had some incidents when after I paused it and then pressed replay it moved directly to the current stream or looped back form the beginning....I cannot grasp what it did yet completely...
How should I test it?

You can tell it is on with the left and right arrows on the UI. If you are migrating from extended timeshift ensure the pre buffer is reduced to 1 to start.

If you pause longer then the buffer time there will some oddness because after the Kodi buffer plays out it will load from the top of the time specified ie 20 minutes back by default. I wouldn't skip until the Kodi buffer was emptied.

Normal rules for support apply Kodi debug logs would help.

I am trying something now (with Kodi 18.4 on Windows) and it seems that timeshift kicks-off when I press pause....from there on, there is a new bar above the normal one created and I can go back and forth on that bar.
But I would rather expect that timeshift will kick off from the time I start watching the channel...by the way, thanks for the advise I had to set pre buffer to 1 (not even 0 worked ok) for this to work...
So imaging I click a channel in Kodi to start viewing it, after 10 minutes I press pause, I have no way of going back before the time I pressed pause (I can only go back to the 10 minute, not 9, not 8 not 1). Is this supposed to work this way? Why would I ever need to press pause to get timeshift enabled if I have it already set in the nextpvr plugin?

It takes about 10 seconds for the the bar to appear but it should appear. That isn't how it is supposed to work and although I am on linux Matrix right now I can certainly timeshift before I hit pause. You are missing the kodi debug log though.

Thanks Martin,

I was asking just about the behavior...now that you confirmed it is not normal, I'll enable the logs and upload.

Well, I tried it again and it seems that although the gray bar does not appear until I press pause, it does record before that. Seems to be working ok now. I might be confused because of the nonexistence of the additional bar form the beginning...
