Unable to change channels in GBPVR when using dtvcontrol exe and a serial cable. GBPVR will open program but not change channels accordingly. I am able to manipulate the external tuner when controlling with the utility, but not when used through GBPVR. I have downloaded the latest version but still no luck.

Because of another user having problems, I've actually just performed a lot of testing to ensure the .exe channel changer is functioning correctly. We were able to determine GB-PVR was living up to its end of the bargain (starting external exe and passing in channel number), but the exe was having its own problems. I'm fairly sure this will be the case here to.

I'm not really familiar with dtvcontrol.exe, but the following information is usually the key: Remember, when the .exe channel change is run by GB-PVR, it's running as a Windows Service not as a normal process on your desktop. Because of this, some types of things obviously wont work.

- Sharing data via the clipboard. Lots of utilities try this. If dtvcontrol is the "client" part of a client/server arangement, this is likely to be the problem.
- Reading HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry setting for configuration information (serial port number etc).

I dont know for sure these are your problem, but it has been things we've come across in the past.

You could try setting the 'allow service to interact with desktop' setting in the control panel -> administrative tools -> services -> GBPVR Recording Service. It may help.

Did you get this to work?

I just setup my PC with a Hauppauge 150 and an older DTV reciever that I had up in my attic. The receiver works except the IR port is broke. So I can't use the winTV2000 application that shipped with the 150 card.

I know Beyond TV supports the DTV control program, but I would rather not shell out the $70 just for that.

I heard about GB-PVR and was hoping it could use the data port on the receiver.

Use the search, the answer is there Smile

I'll save you the trouble:

http://www.dtvcontrol.com/

Download the windows app and the command line utility.

Place both in a folder with NO SPACES in the path - c:\directv

Add the path to your system path.

In the external exe changer field give the full path to the command line utility.

After the exe add a space and then (minus quotes) "#{channel}"

Select the 3 digit channel numbers and use zero padding.

Place a shortcut to the windows control app in your startup folder since the main Directv app needs to be running for the command line utility to work.

At this point if your cable is good, your port is set on the Directv box, and using the windows app you can change the channel, you should be all set.

Can not get the .EXE Changer Plugin, Channel Changer, to work with GB-PVR MediaMVP. What I am seeing is that the changer is working fine when running the desktop GBPVR but it does not work when running the GB-PVR MediaMVP version. Any help?

Your recomendation to " 'allow service to interact with desktop' setting in the control panel -> administrative tools -> services -> GBPVR Recording Service ", fixed this problem. Thanks. This is one great piece of software.
