GB-PVR looks really wonderful. I have a Hauppauge PVR-350, and at present I am only interested in using it to capture some VHS tapes, so I am on a quest for the best capture software.

It seems that gb-pvr is only usable to record TV shows? It looks like it should produce wonderful quality captures, so if there is a way to convince it to record from the SVHS input of the Hauppauge, on demand, I would be interested to know about it.

I have read the documentation, and didn't find this mentioned, but perhaps I missed it.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Scott

I haven't tried it, but it would seem to me that if you had your feed coming from your vcr, what ever channel is your vcr channel, like 3 or 4, that would be what GB-PVR sees.

You certainly can trick it into doing this, but if you want to capture from your VCR, you're probably best to use WinTV. Right tool for the right job and all that...

The capture quality will be the same.

Thanks. WinTV 2K does a fine job, but for longer video captures, it seems to have some problems, truncating files, or having only the first part of the
captured file playable.

I have tried WinTVCap, which does capture fhe file with no problem, but the quality is somewhat less good, especially the sound. I thought perhaps: wintvcap is able to do it because it doesn't display the picture during the capture, but turning off the localdisplay with WinTV2K doesn't help it much.

Thanks for the fast reply, and excellent work on GB-PVR. Very impressive.

What is "longer video captures" by your definition? Not sure if this is helpful at all, but I captured a 4 hour tape a year ago (one time only, so it could be I was just plain lucky :-)) with wintv2000, without any problems at all. At least you now know it's possible ;-)

I captured a family reunion tape with my vcr and gb-pvr. I set it to channel 3 and did a manual recording on channel 3 for the length of the tape. Worked great. Smile
