Was somewhat shocked to find that the old model of being able to access a backend from a frontend on a networked machine has evaporated after I "upgraded" to version 5.

Is this gone for good or is this being fixed, and if so is there an eta?

Many thanks!

There are more network clients than ever, the only difference is those clients currently are not NextPVR.exe

One of the reasons why I have not "upgraded" ... Smile

V5 client software is under construction but there is no eta ... the NextPVR gods recommend Kodi at times like this ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/other-clients

Would you care to be more specific?

Thanks!

Aha, ok, thanks very much.

The official Kodi client doesn't work for me, but I was not aware of those options.  Any specifc recommendtions?

Did you you consider knewc on Kodi with the NextPVR GUI?

The simplest to get up and running is probably the NextPVR add-on for Kodi ... you will get good support here if it is giving you a problem.

The knewc add-on for Kodi will provide you with an interface that looks the same as NextPVR.exe V4 ... a tad more work to get it up and running but it does what it says on the tin.

Kodi and knewc ... https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=50833

If you post for support regarding Kodi ... I strongly recommend that you follow ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/get-help

The best thing to do at this point is explain what you want as a client. You don't explain why Kodi won't work, and you don't explain what you want the client to do or how you want it to look.

I basically just want to to be able to watch TV served by a Next PVR backend from networked devices around the house.  As I used to be able to do from Kodi clients.

Since "upgrading" to Version 5 I have tried and failed to get this working on windows, Linux and Android devices.  I'm no expert but I've also tried to build a native linux client I found here on the site on a (L)Ubuntu machine and that didn't work either.

Must admit I haven't looked at any logs, but they all just hang with what appears to be the correct sign on credentials and I assumed the new release is not working properly.

And I don't care about having a kodi client, or being able to schedule/watch recordings and stuff from clients, I just want TV!

V5 works without issue with current Kodi clients. If you use and obsolete version of Kodi (v17 or earlier) you will have issues with timeshifted playback, but things should still work and you certain should be able to watch TV.
