@sub Thanks for fixing and posting here. It's been bugging me for a few weeks. Will the new NShared.dll be included in the next release? It wasn't in 5.0.9.201018.

5.0.9.201018 includes that logic I previously posted in that older nshared.dll

I'm pretty sure your Australian xmltv file will not have that quality of data.

I'm intrigued to know how the 'highlight new shows' checkbox appears to be working in the v5 EPG grid, using the DVB/ATSC EPG source for Canberra Australia TV services. I cannot see any "previously-shown" field in any XMLTV output from EPG Collector or TSReader for those services.

No and Yes!

I had an XMLTV source, which has the "previously-shown" field, in the NextPVR EPG Sources lineup. It appears that the "NEW" flag was being picked up from that, even though I had all channels mapped to use the DVB/ATSC EPG source.

Removing that XMLTV source, clearing all guide data, then rescanning all services, I then had an EPG grid with all shows showing New.

So have now unchecked the 'highlight new shows' checkbox.

Thanks for your response.

If NextPVR doesn't know whether a show is new or old, then it's assumed to be new (since this is safer, with regards to getting recorded if we don't know either way)

Thanks for that. I think there was a misunderstanding on my part about the working of the EPG Sources lineup. It appears that an XMLTV source in the lineup with the "previously-shown" field present was being used, even though I had all channels mapped to use the DVB/ATSC EPG source.

Now that I have removed the XMLTV source I am seeing another problem with EPG update. I have made two tuners available to NextPVR, but if the first tuner is occupied with a scheduled recording, then an update run manually appears to occupy the same tuner with a "null.ts" recording and only the frequency of the service that the tuner is recording is scanned. The second tuner remains unused.

I seem to recall that the order of use of tuners can be changed in config.xml. I'll try that.

If this post is out of place I can start a new thread.

You're best to leave the overnight EPG update at like 3am or so, when you're unlikely to be using a tuner. The DVB EPG currently always uses the original tuner used to scan the channel. It wont look for other available tuners. It shouldn't interfere with recordings already in progress on that tuner, but best to leave it well away from recordings if you can.

Thanks for the advice.

Swapping the order of the two tuners available to NextPVR on the Devices page of the Web UI has done the trick. Promoting tuner 2 to first position has directed recordings to that tuner, freeing up tuner 1 (in second position, and the tuner used for the original channel scan) to run the scheduled EPG update. This strategy works because currently I am only scheduling recordings on one TV service. Any more than that one service and both tuners would be occupied with recordings and unavailable for full service spectrum EPG scans.

Your recommendation to schedule the EPG update overnight is sound, but in my case 99.9% of recordings are in prime time, so I prefer to run the daily scheduled EPG update at 5.30 pm to try and catch any late TV program changes.

Regards
