Hi all.

This is my first post. I tried to search the forum for this problem but I could not find anything however, being a newbie......
I am using GBPVR with much pleasure on a VIA C3 system running windows 2000 used as a central file/mail/web/UPnP server. There is no monitor connected to that system. All recording control is done through the web based scheduler. Playback goes through a UPnP enables Philips LS400 networked media player connected to a TV.
When I (infrequently) reboot the server running GBPVR and a scheduled recording is started it defaults to NTSC and no sound. Only when running some other applications after the reboot (schedulingassistant?) the recordings are done in PAL and there is sound.
When connecting a monitor and running GBPVR after the reboot with live TV it also starts in NTSC and no sound.
The country settings in the recording device is done correctly
My capturedevice is a Hauppauge PVR150MCE with the latest drivers freshly installed
I did put logging on verbose but no obvious message found
Anyone a suggestion what I should do to get a good recording without having to manually intervene?

Are you sure you have a PAL card? This does not sound like a gbpvr problem. Head over to the Hauppauge UK site and look there. There are registry hacks and the such to convert an NTSC card into a PAL one. Maybe this will fix it

Thanks for the advice.
I downloaded from the benelux site the qualified drivers for the 150MCE and indeed the system comes up in PAL but still no sound.
The sequence to get sound working is.
Boot system.
Start scheduled recording (no sound)
Cancel recording, start GBPVR with LiveTV (no sound)
cancel GBPVR, start tuningasistant.exe, start channel search till first good channel found, cancel tuningassistant
start gbpvr.exe, watch liveTV and voila, sound is working,
Does this make sense?

1) I don't understand where you mentioned getting the newest 150 drivers from...was it from the Hauppaugue site? Drivers from anywhere else can be a problem (I had no audio issues w/ some prerelease drivers for the 150 before)

2) Does WinTV work fine out of boot?

3) Does the recording have sound, even if it doesn't while recording?

3) Does the recording have sound, even if it doesn't while recording?

1) The drivers come from the official benelux web site.

2) WinTV does not come with a PVR150MCE card (no CD included) thats why I had to download the drivers from the hauppauge web site. So WinTV may work fine but it will not help because starting winTV before being able to make a scheduled recording will again require manual intervention.

3) I do not understand your question. Untill I have run tuningassistant there is no sound with whatever I do, not with GBPVR watching live TV or with a scheduled recording, of course when playing back a good recording, thats including recorded sound, there is sound so the sound of the PC is working fine. I tested the recordings without sound on different PC's and on the SL400 and all fail to reproduce sound. Because also GBPVR LiveTV has no sound before running tuningassistant I assume it is some initialisation problem with the PVR150MCE that is solved by running tuningassistant.

1) I don't understand what this benelux site is. I am talking about the 150 drivers, that you need to make sure to get from Hauppaugue. Others may work fine, but you need to go w/ the safe bets for troubleshooting.

2) I was asking about WinTV to see if you had sound w/ Live TV there. If you do, then it is less likely a 150 issue.

3) It almost sounds like you need to do some manual tuning. Since WinTV has different tuning settings, and you have audio there, then you want those tunings.

http://www.bladerhq.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...gAssistant

Go here, read up, and follow links to FreqCopy. It will take tuings from WinTV and put them in GB. I use it to fine-tune cable channels that the 150 is sensitive to picking up noise in.

General Troubleshooting Disclaimer: Make sure to only do the things you are comfortable doing, and after understanding how to do them

1) I downloaded from the official Hauppauge site the official 150 drivers. And once working, they work perfectly!

2) I do not have WinTV, I do not know how to install WinTV because I do not have the CD to install WinTV because that CD is not sold together with the 150MCE

3) I did the finetuning, please remember that once I get the sound working by running tuningassistent everything works perfectly, The channel frequencies I use are entered manually from the information provided by my cable provider and manually checked by watching LiveTV during the installation process. Also remember that before running tuningassistant and after running tuningassistant I use the SAME channel frequencies when whatching LiveTV or doing a scheduled recording. The only change is "no sound" before and "sound" after running tuningassistant.

I checked with the Hauppauge tweak took the level settings for audio, and they remain the same before and after running tuningassistent.

I don't understand why you just don't get WinTV from the Hauppague site. It's where I got my copy.

If you install WinTV, and have sound in channels there, you can use freq copy to move those tunings to GB.

Beyond that, I'm out of ideas.

Capone is right. Use Freqcopy. Its becuase in EU they dont use exact channels. There are 160K offsets to prevent interferance between transmitters. We have the same problem here. I think you have the right drivers from Benelux. However site does not have the latest. Find SHS site and here they have latest drivers. The reason why tuning assistant works is becuase it is searching and finding the exact frequnecy not the channel. You are entering the channel number and not the offset. Use tuning assitant and freqcopy together to get the exact frequncy you need. It will all work OK then. Howver; you will need better drivers than the ones you got from the official Hauppauge site. Thats another story for another day

OK, I will try to explain it again because I seem to confuse you all.
My GBPVR works perfectly, it records wonderfully all channels I want with good picture and sound.
Also LiveTV works very well. Both sound and picture are excellent on all channels
There is one small problem.
Directly after a reboot there is no sound. Not on LiveTV and not on recording. Not on ANY channel.
But when I run tuningassistant once there is sound, both in recording and LiveTV. After running tuning assistent I do NOT change any settings, it just magically works for all channels.
I tried all possible drivers from the UK Hauppauge site and they all have the same effect with sound, that is no sound after reboot untill you once run tuningassistent (the picture quality differs but that is not the issue here)
So I am SURE it is not a matter of copying the channel settings because I am sure they are right. I use them all the time with perfect recordings, only directly after a reboot there is a problem.
Hope this explains it better.
