Before I get too far along settings things up, I want to sense check this.

I've been using Jellyfin a bit and looking to add live TV with NextPVR. But it seems that's recently broken due to Jellyfin changing. Nor is Jellyfin very nice via MrMC on the ATV (half working)

So I'm now looking at NextPVR with Emby on the ATV.

Native ATV app, proper support for NextPVR. Great. But I need to pay for Emby to even try this out.

Does anyone here have Emby and ATV and NextPVR server all playing nicely?

I'm also in the UK so wanting to basically get all the usual Freesat channels and EPG working properly. (replacing old Humax Freesat box)

This all has to be fairly wife-proof, so 'just works' is pretty important.

Any hints/tips/advice?

Also a few NextPVR questions if anyone has an interest...

I've already trimmed the setup/scan list using kingofsat so I just have the core Freesat (ish) channels.

Currently struggling with the EPG. I've set everything in the channel list to Freesat (UK) source for EPG, and despite setting 600s time on EPG scans, it still seems to revert to 60s and captures about 50 channels worth of now and next data, and then won't add anything else with recursive scans.
I appreciate some channels I have might not be on Freesat EPG, but surely the Freesat channels should all show up with an EPG entry?
If I set the EPG to the DVB/ATSC source then it captures more, but in 60s it still only captures a small amount, but recursive scans increase the EPG data. But only by a small amount. This is why I'm trying to force the scanning for longer than 60s because it seems 60s is only catching just what is on now and next... not days ahead.

I'm not sure if it's possible, but given most UK users will just want the 'freesat' clone setup, is it relatively trivial to just have a 'freesat' clone setup... and just copy the required files into my NextPVR for the channels/EPG so it all just works with sensible channel numbering and EPG sources etc?

Currently I have loads of duplicate channels, and it seems the Wiki help shows a different UI to amend the data, wheras the NextPVR uses a web interface now which doesn't seem to work in an intuitive fashion.
I've started re-ordering channels, but it seems there is no way to trim out unwanted channel entries.
All you can seem to do is put certain ones into a specific group?

The UI shown in the Wiki (which looks more like the MediaPortal TV Server config) looks like you can easily manage channels. The web interface system feels a bit limited in feature set? But I can't seem to find the UI like in the Wiki?

Thanks!

Accessing NextPVR from Emby is against the NextPVR license which is why I dropped support for the addon. You'd only be able to import recording. .

Also is ATV Apple or Amazon? Kodi runs on both and sub already has a nice client for Apple.

Ah sorry, from what I had been seeing Jellyfin and Emby were both interfacing with NextPVR. I'd assumed it was legitimate.

ATV is Apple TV.

Kodi can run on the Apple TV, and that's what I'd prefer to run. Sadly you can't get it via normal means and the port that you can pay for, MrMC, is pretty poor really. Things like the pause/play button on the Apple remote aren't even mapped to play/pause for example. Nor did the play/pause buttons even work via the UI.

What is sub?

I notice NextPVR has an app for Apple TV, but it costs money (yet here/web etc it's free... is it legitimate?) and until I can test it then it could be a waste of money. There are just a few reviews and most are old and say it's not really a finished product.

As noted, I want a system that my wife and kids can use, so being able to test these things is important. That was why the Emby route was preferred because it seems to 'just work' for everything. Photos, videos, films, live TV etc.

Plus I've still not got NextPVR set up 100% properly, so I was making sure I could even get a nice experience out of the UI on the Apple TV before I waste more time getting it working right on the server side.

It's always the EPG haha.

Sub is the author or NextPVR and it is legitimate but it is not freeware it is supported by donations.

I don't use MrMc so I can't comment but it is not free either.

For Kodi on AppleTV I did have to configure my own SiriRemote. Also I use an IR remote with it to get a lot more keys.

Emby is ok but for many things they were piggy backing on NextPVR for a lot of features it lacked yet they weren't willing to provide the interface to NextPVR without charging their users. Like everything else it has issues too.

OTA EPG from the UK should be OK in NextPVR

Ah I've just seen the Apple TV and iOS app is on here, and is alive and kicking, legitimate etc. It's not entirely obvious that it's a legitimate thing via the App Store with it's tiny amount of reviews etc.

It's a good job I didn't buy it on my iPhone then, as it looks like it's a different client to the Apple TV one. I didn't know that was even a thing.

OK so I'll try that app out once I've added payment details to the Apple TVs iTunes account.

Yes the EPG looks to 'work' in some fashion. I'm sure with lots of days tinkering I'll figure out what makes it happy haha. It looks like this was specifically set up for a certain frequency scan (Freesat (UK)), but it's not clear in any help files if you set this for every channel that you want to use it, or not, or if it should grab for longer than 60s or what.

I'll go ask on the appropriate sub forum if someone is willing to share their config for a working UK Freesat-like setup.

There seems little point in me spending hours in the web UI tweaking all the EPG boxes and channel numbers and so on, where I guess it's just a few database files I can dump into my folder.

Thanks
