I'm a total newbie but I just installed Ver 6.0.0.220904 and the Device Scan is not finding my tuner.

Specifics:
Linux Version: Mint 19.3 Cinnamon
Tuner: Silicon Dust HDHR3-US (2012) at FW version 20150406 (I don't think there's a newer one)

The HDHR3-US has dual tuners and it makes OTA channels available via ethernet to any PC on my LAN.  I know the tuner works because I can ping it, see it in the Silicon Dust desktop app on Linux and watch live TV on it using VLC Media Player.   The thing I can't do is get the above noted version of NextPVR to find it when doing a device scan.

I've searhed the Linux forum here but haven't found anything similar to my issue.  I've seen folks talking about what's shown in dmesg but since the tuner isn't attached to the Linux PC physically, I'm not sure it would show up there.  Of course, dmesg generates a huge output and maybe I just don't know what to look for.

Any help would be most appreciated.  Thanks!

How did you install for Linux? If you used the .deb installer upload the Nextpvr logs from the settings page

Based on the discovery response if you didn't edit the file you will need to update your firmware

Updated the firmware.  It was sort of 'hidden' on the Silicon Dust site.  The tuners now show up under devices.  Currently trying to do a channel scan on the the first of the dual tuners.  The only options under the Guide are None and Freesat (UK).  The latter has sub-options of Add Schedules Direct Lineup and Add XMLTV Lineup.

I'm pretty sure from other posts I've read here that there's supposed to be a file or files that was/were added under /usr/share/dvb during the deb install.  I see files there but I'm not sure how to get the app to find them.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and my problems is something else entirely.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I don't know how to change the name of a post of if that's even possible so I've decided to reply to my own post to try and get some more help.

My initial problem was as described in the Subject line - after installing NextPVR, the application was on unable to find my tuner.  I got some excellent help from mvallevand who told me how to fix that by updating the tuner's firmware.

Now the tuner can be seen but the app can't find a file located in /usr/share/dvb/atsc that defines channels for my geography.  I think the needed file is us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8VSB but I don't know how to 'connect' it to the app.

I'm sorry if I'm abusing the system here by replying to my own post but it feels like I'm so close to getting this to work.

I guess another option at this point would be just to un-install NextPVR but I hesitate to do that because it might just foul things up even further.

Any advice?  Thanks!  alle mvall

What makes you think it needs this? Are you getting an error message or something? From memory, I don't think you need this file with the HDHR.

For most HDHR, you need to log into it's own web app on the device, and scan for channels. When you scan in NextPVR, it's just asking the HDHR for the list of channels it scanned previously.

For most HDHR, you need to log into it's own web app on the device, and scan for channels. When you scan in NextPVR, it's just asking the HDHR for the list of channels it scanned previously.

When I pick the tuner on the Settings-Devices page, I get a mesage "This device currently has no channels, hit the Scan or Import buttons to add channels to this device".  Then I hit the Scan Channels Button and I get a pop-up with a box labeled 'Guide'.  The drop-down in that box defaults to 'None' but also has a selection called 'FreeSat (UK)' with two sub selections called '...Add Schedules Direct Lineup'  and ',,,Add XMLTV Lineup.

I don't have a Schedules Direct Account nor do I have a URL or File for XMLTV.

So my thinking was that somehow the channel info was supposed to be in the file I cited above.

The HDHR3-US is a very old tuner, made in 2012 or so.  I used it back then with Media Center in Windows 7 and was able to make recordings with it.  As far as I can tell, this tuner does not retain a channel list.  The only way I can currently interact with it is using the HDHomeRun Config app for Linux.  I must scan to find a channel whenever opening that app,  There is a View button in that app that launches VLC Media Player which then displays whatever has been tuned on the tuner.  If there is a web app for the tuner, I am unaware of it.  Just putting it's IP address into the URL box on a browser does nothing.

There's not much support for this old tuner on the Silicon Dust site.

Thanks!

Just to be clear, this Guide drop down is only about getting TV listing data to go with your channels. You can just leave it set to None and hit the scan button.

For the guide data in North America, there is no decent broadcast EPG, so long term you'll eventually want to get a Schedules Direct account or XMLTV source, but you don't need it to get your channels scanned in.

These older legacy devices do typically have a channel list available too, but it is actually stored on from the SiliconDust website, so the download comes from there.

If such listings exist on the SiliconDust website, I haven't been able to find them. The site seems to be biased toward the newest devices, not these ancient legacy devices. Does anyone have any idea how to obtain that list.

Even if I were to obtain this list, there is no actual 'Import' button in the version I'm using ( 6.0.0.220904). I tried just hitting the 'Scan Channels' button with None in the Guide dropdown. Text appears below the box stating 'Loading EPG mappings' but it doesn't really seem to be doing anything. How long should it take to scan. It sounds like you are telling me it should but that I'll never be able to schedule recordings without a Schedules Direct Lineup or an XMLTV lineup.

Recall that I'm a newbie cord cutter here and I'm looking to replace the DVR capablitity that came with my streaming service. Where does one go to get these "Lineups" and once they've been obtained, how does one 'install them in NextPVR?

Thanks!
