I recently installed latest LibreElec 10 on an old Windows 7 era Pentium laptop to try the NextPVR server software which is now a built in option. It was far easier to install than on ordinary Linux and possibly easier than Windows. Once installed setup is via the same web app. As I have a SAT>IP sever there was no need to connect any tuner. A scan found all the expected channels and I was able to make a recording to the local disk and play it on one of my NextPVR clients.

Later as a test I temporarily replaced my normal Windows 10 NextPVR server disk in my almost 10 years old HP Microserver with the LibreElec disk. I was pleasantly surprised that it detected what I thought would be a rather obscure DVBSky S952 PCIe DVB-S card. I was less surprised that the Hauppauge dual DVB-T USB card was detected. It was the chip set that was detected not the tuner manufacturer in both cases. Both scanned and seemed to find the expected channels!!

The remaining problem is the EPG data for which I use EPG Collector to generate. I need to keep using it for compatibility with the programme IDs stored in the “Recently Deleted” data to “avoid duplicate recordings”. It can be persuaded to run under Linux but unsure at the moment it will run under LibreElec!

It seems like this is a recap of other posts, but I am now thinking I have a potential solution using Scheduled Direct. My NextTool utility already has an option checks recordings with episode and S/E information and adds the Schedules Direct unique ID to avoid duplicates. Depend on the age of your previously deleted table I could probably extend that functionality.

Not sure that will work for me as I have modifed the xmltv file. The broadcast ID in the EPG data consists of (Series ID.Programme ID) used by PVRs to record all in the same series and avoid duplicate recordings. It must be almost 10 years ago but using the full ID didnt avoid duplicate recordings. My son wrote a PHP script to delete all the Series ID part of the ID from the XMLTV file before it was imported into NextPVR. Afterwards duplicate recordings were not recorded although Sub said it should not have been necessary! Its been running like that without a problem since then!!

If there is reasonable metadata saved it may not be as bad as you think. Reruns probably aren't that common and even if the odd on gets to through and you record it it wouldn't be the end of the world. If course that depends too on how many shows you watch that are reruns, the Schedules Direct new flag eliminates a lot too.

At the moment I dont intend to update my NextPVR server to LibreElec any time soon as I only updated to Windows 10 a month ago. Its running without a problem on a hard disk because the server only has 3 1/2 inch plugin disk slots. I have one 3 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inch disk adaptor box curently holding the Windows 8 SSD so it now looks safe to copy the Windows 10 image to that SSD. Any update to LibreElec will be in slow time on a spare PC first.
