When I use the “nexttool.exe --debug \\NUS2000\Media2\RECORDINGS” command line the command trace references xml documents with unexpected content. For example:

System.InvalidOperationException: There is an error in XML document (2, 2).
 ---> System.InvalidOperationException: <recordings xmlns=''> was not expected.
   at Microsoft.Xml.Serialization.GeneratedAssembly.XmlSerializationReaderRecording.Read6_recording()
   --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
   at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(XmlReader xmlReader, String encodingStyle, XmlDeserializationEvents events)
   at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(TextReader textReader)
   at NextTool.MetaXML..ctor(String filename, Nullable`1 filesize)

The NextTool.txt that is generated shows the exact same information.  How can I determine what xml document haqs the unexpected content?

Thank you.

Assuming you are using the version from the wiki it is hard to say, I haven't used the --debug option for a long time, it was mainly used to at the very beginning of development to help me work on the directory search logic.

Does NextTool.log show more information on the file that is being processed? Also are you using the version from the wiki? I do have exception handling on the XML on the version I have here, but I am not sure the wiki has this current version.

Actually what I am trying to do is "NextTool --export \\NUS2000\Media2\RECORDINGS." But there is no NextTool.xml generated and the log file (attached) doesn't provide any information about why there isn't a NextTool.xml file produced. I thought the --debug command would provide more information.

The following are the Details from NextTool.exe file properties dialog box.
  File description:  NextTool
  File version:  2.2.1.0
  Product version:  2.2.1
  Date modified:  11/22/2022

This should be really simple, but it's really difficult.

Thank you.

Sounds like there is a bad XML file in your folder (or one NextTool doesn't) like, I would think the log file would show. Logs need to be zipped.

That is the app. The logs are with the NextPVR logs, just get all the logs from NextPVR web and post that zip file.

So you did import using --import  which is the best way to do this

What I expect is there is a bad file in one of these folders.

2023-03-31 08:35:13.065 [DEBUG][1] Folders: \\NUS2000\Media2\RECORDINGS\Japangle\Season 01
2023-03-31 08:35:13.148 [INFO][1] Folder: Japanology Plus

I have uploaded the version I have here and it should handle xml files better, it also logs the xml file being read.  Just unzip and overwrite the two files.  Continue with --import too.

Thank you again ... with your hellp I located three corrupt xml files and corrected them, then ran the export command again and a NextTool.xml file was created which I was able to successfully import. It was simple to do.
