Hey guys. Really nice software.

First I have a few remarks - I haven´t found any notice, on how to change the tv image size in the window - but found it in the config.xml by myself (VerticalZoom ... ). Would be nice to explain it in the wiki.
I really had trouble to find out how this xmltv works - I think especially newbies would very much appreciate infos on how to handle this , as GBPVR doesn´t work without it (-> wiki).

So now my real problem - I can´t get my image deinterlaced in GBPVR
I have a hauppauge pvr150 with wintv2000 installed - works fine with that, good quality.
The only way to get a little deinterlace in GBPVR (with live preview mode on) is to choose Deinterlacing: Deinterlace Filter. But that takes 99% of my CPU power (compared to less than 40% with WinTV2k) and the resolution drops - very poor image quality  .
With live preview off it, deinterlacing is rather good (not as good as in WinTV2k) but I don´t wanna wait 30secs on changing a tv-channel.
I´ve read in other posts that ffdshow or dscale are very good deinterlacers - but I don´t have any idea on how to get them work with GBPVR. I have installed ffdshow-20050328.exe turned the deinterlace option on, but no change. I also tried DScaler 5 0.0.6 - same thing.

Except vlc player, I have nothing installed on my WinXP SP2 about videos - no filters, directshow, whatever...
So I´d be very thankful if somebody could explain me how to configure a working deinterlacer!

To get ffdshow to work as your deinterlacer, you have to choose the "ffdshow raw fideo filter" option in the drop down box in the misc tab of the config app. You might need to enable raw video support within ffdshow too. I've never had much luck with that, it always seemed to cause color issues on my machine - probably ATI driver related though, never heard anyone else complain about it. (Every time the blue bars pop up from GBPVR the video's colors go wacky).

Choosing the "Deinterlace Filter" option uses some open source deinterlacing code. This code is actually used in the DScaler project, but I agree with you that it doesn't look very clean coming out of GBPVR. Not sure why.

The only way to get the REAL DScaler5 to be your video codec is to playback an already-recorded video OR turn off live preview mode. With live-preview disabled, you're actually just decoding an MPEG2 file that has been recorded about 2 seconds earlier.

As of right now, live preview is my only gripe with GBPVR. I don't use it except to do some fiddling so it doesn't bother me too much but I understand your problem.

jcromes, if you use the 'encoder pass-through' option, then things also go through the mpeg encoder hardware, and then directly to the MPEG2 decoder. This is less than half a second behind live tv. This should also alow you to use the DScaler5 filter for live preview mode.

If you have SP2, you already have DirectX 9.0c, which includes DirectShow. You obviously already have some sort of MPEG2 codec (probably Intervideo that came with your card) so you have all that you need to run GBPVR.

HOLY CRAP that works great....
I swear I've tried that before, not sure why I never figured that out.
THANK YOU!

LivePreview mode is gorgeous and fast now...
I guess I'll have to come up with something else to be my only gripe about GBPVR now... Big Grin

I'm sure you're more than welcome to add this info to the wiki Big Grin Seriously, though, there is no one person responsible for the writing the wiki, it's supposed to be added to as we go along. Any info that is missing, or inaccurate, we should fix ourselves. That said, I myself am not one of the contributors to the wiki :o

Thanx for your advices.
I'll see what I can do about the wiki!

I tried that thing with DScaler 5 and "Encoder pass-through". When I then start Live-TV in GBPVR I get "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." - what am I doing wrong? How get I get this to work?

Hmm. Make absolutely sure you've got the right card configured in your capture source and make sure your livetv bitrate is ok.

It's in the same list where you would configure "medium" "high" and all the others.

Go with something simple, like 5000 CBR until you get it working. That's probably what it's set to now anyway.
