I tried NextPVR after having to dust off my old AVERMedia tuner as today my new Hauppage TV tuner got fried when lightning struck my roof antenna.  I can't use WinTV 10 anymore as it only works with genuine Hauppage tuners, and I used to use SichboPVR 4 but now on my desktop it only gives me half the frame rate (but recordings play back at the correct frame rate) on my laptop SichboPVR 4 runs fine.  NextPVR was the next step as Media Portal 2 crashes when I tried to open any of the scanned channels.  I have one glaring problem though.

NO ability to record!

I set up my recording folder in the settings server side, but when I play a TV channel, there is a big gap in the icons on the OSD, where the record button should be.  Because of this I can not record any TV shows at all.

EDIT:  I also noticed that when Live TV is enabled the status bar on the bottom that's meant to count from the start of the show to the end, hovers near the end all the time and the time quickly switches between -00:00:00 to -00-00-01, and the green bar is juddering in the same spot.  Does this have something to do with the missing record button?  Is there a hotkey I can use that may force recording or is recording just not going to work on my PC?

That button is only for recording Live TV with the mouse. Ctrl-K from the keyboard and the remote button on the remote should still work. Scheduling from the EPG and the manually should also work. If you must record with a mouse use Kodi until sub has a chance to release a fix.

Sub's style for the timeine is quite confusing (for me anyway) it is based on where you are in the live TV buffer not in the program. There is a config.xml change <OldStyleTimeLine>true</OldStyleTimeLine> that makes it more readable for me. Here too Kodi is more traditional.

My old tuner doesn't have a remote. I use the mouse. I tried Kodi but whenever I tried to use any TV plugin, it would then perma-hang at 0% loading and never load. Media Portal 2 just stops responding and then crashes whenever I try to access any scanned channel. SichboPVR runs at half the frame rate. WinTV 10 only works with genuine Hauppage tuners, and my Hauppage tuner got fried when lightning struck my roof antenna. Until I get the money back from an insurance claim I am struggling to watch TV, as my PC is in my lounge room as a TV/Home Theater/Gaming System/Home Arcade/VR Kiosk/Etc.

I think you're in the mindset of a different type of application.

You can schedule recordings from the TV guide.

If you want to record the current show you're watching in Live TV, you can press the Record button on your remote, or Ctrl-K keyboard combo. Be aware though - this will schedule the currently airing show to record. It's not really intended as a start/stop toggle button like you might use in WinTV for recording small clips from some video source.

FYI, the right side of the time is the live point. That screenshot is saying you're -00:00:01 seconds from live. ie, if you pause it, you'll see it drift back. ie, pause for 30 seconds and you'll see it drift back to -00:00:30. This is much the same timeline model you see on live streams on youtube etc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCNeDWCI0vo)

This is NextPVR not MediaPortal you shouldn't have any troubles with a Hauppauge tuner on Windows, if your drivers are installed correctly.

I know what the status bar is, but it doesn't work.  It just hovers between -00:00:00 and -00:00:01 and judders around, instead of progressing from left to right.

I explained how to get a more traditional timeline that you might be used to.

Kodi doesn't work for me. When I try ANY Live TV plugin and try to watch TV the plugin manager permanently hangs at 0% so I can't use Kodi at all.

That post about Kodi doesn't make sense, but then without logs there are no problems anyway. I expect you just have a corrupt installation and need to repair it. Perhaps a portable install would work for you in the meantime.
