recording failures and powercfg error

On a system that was working, I'm now seeing lots of errors of the form "Recording service not running at recording time". PC isn't waking up.
The usual stuff, sleep settings are: sleep after 15, unattended timeout 2, allow waketimers are enabled. Hmmm, I'm sure I had unattended set to 10 previously (now updated to 10).

I've tried toggling the nextpvr service between automatic and automatic delayed. I've toggled the "keep tuners primed" back and forth. No difference.
I've not changed any BIOS settings, because no settings have been fiddled with recently. I've re-installed NextPVR (though not yet with an uninstall beforehand).

Interestingly powercfg /waketimers (yes, runas admin) returns the following error: "Unable to perform operation.  An unexpected error (0x65b) has occurred:  Function failed during execution". No other powercfg commands reurn an error. A thorough google search suggests that no one has an effective fix for this (the usual sfc/dism/troubleshooter options list no errors, and have no effect). So, I restored my system from a backup taken a few days ago, and the error was gone.

And it's back... after adding scheduled recordings to NextPVR. It looks as though adding scheduled recordings to NextPVR is causing (or triggering) the 0x65b error. With no recordings scheduled I see the scheduled wake for EPG update, no problem.

Windows 11 23H2 build 22621 release 220506-1250. NextPVR 6.1.5.231022

Any thoughts, amyone? When I first set up NextPVR I spent a lot of time sorting out wake/sleep issues, then more time was wasted with crappy Hauppauge drivers, and eventually I got a stable system. And now it's giving me grief again. Alternatively can anyone recommend a TV with multiple tuners that can record to a USB device without encryption, available in the UK?

Hi

Most references to this error seem to be related to the use of hibernation (not sleep). Do you have hibernation enabled?

if powercfg /waketimers throws this error, do you see the same if you run some of the other powercfg options such as /requests or /lastwake ?

10+ years ago, I also used to have a load of problems with my Hauppauge USB2 device not waking properly from sleep (and before that with the PVR350 PCI card). I eventually got a blackgold USB card which has been faultless so I can't help with suggestions for a new USB tuner.

Hi,

" No other powercfg commands reurn an error. "

Hibernation is not enabled (it's a desktop PC, so I've no need of it).

I'm beginning to wonder if the powercfg issue is a red herring - this time it's not come back. I'll have to spend more time experimenting, and noting if/when exactly it comes back.

I think the next thing I'll try is to enable hibernation and then disable it again. After that... I dunno, maybe go and buy a Humax.

It did fail to wake up for these 3 overnight though and it alos showed there is a scheduling bug that sub needs to look into

Code:

The bug is this on failure NextPVR rescheduled recordings in the past on the +1 channel as the alternate which will immediately fail later on so instead of 3 errors you got 6.

I finally got a few minutes to do some testing. The following sequence is repeatable. In the meantime I'm getting recordings only if I prevent the PC from sleeping.

runas admin powercfg /waketimers returns error 0x65b
stop nextPVR service
runas admin powercfg /waketimers lists no waketimers (of course)

start nextpvr service
runas admin powercfg /waketimers returns error 0x65b

delete all scheduled recordings
runas admin powercfg /waketimers lists 1 waketimer (EPG update)

record series: David Attenborough's Life Stories (708 - BBC Radio 4 Ex)
record series: Attenborough: 60 Years In The Wild (24 - BBC 4)
runas admin powercfg /waketimers lists 7 waketimers

record series: Family Guy (6 - ITV2)
runas admin powercfg /waketimers lists 34 waketimers

record series: American Dad (6 - ITV2)
runas admin powercfg /waketimers returns error 0x65b

I'm using sleep overnight on my main system but it does wake up successfully if a recording is scheduled during the sleep time.

As a mater of interest is there a Hiberfile.sys file showing in your system and if so, what is its last edit date?

I did have some issues when I set this up initially and made sure the hibernate function was definitely off by running "powercfg -h off" from an elevated command prompt. (without quotes of course).

"runas admin powercfg /waketimers lists 34 waketimers"

like sub mentioned in this thread from 2017, I am wondering if there is a maximum number of wake timers that your bios can handle. I presume they reside in a piece of ram in the bios and there would likely be a limit to how many it can store and this may be modo specific.
