I am having trouble with the Comics (and Weather as well actually) plugins.

When selecting in GBPVR menu, it freezes, I can see internet activity, and after 30 seconds just get message "Error: The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server". I get the same no matter what comic is chosen, and also when trying to access weather.

I am running Zonealarm but dont think its that as this still happens if its not running, and also nothing appears in the log for it.

Could it be to do with popup blocking from Google Toolbar or Internet Explorer?

I recently upgraded to Service pack 2 for Windows XP, could something in this effect it? (I didnt try it before upgrading to compare, and note Windows firewall is off).

Any advice appreciated!  [Image: biggrin.gif]

I'm pretty sure zone alarm is getting in th eway of GB-PVR accessing the information from the net that is required by these plugins.

Possibly the XP SP2 update has switched on the Windows Firewall as well. You should turn that one off - or do what I did and scap Zone Alarm. You would need to set up GBPVR as an exception though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, but it's still not working.

I definitely have WindowsXP firewall disablled/off.

I have also tried completely uninstalling Zone Alarm, rebooting, and trying Comics and Weather again, but still got the same message.

Any further suggestions?

Is there perhaps a url I could try and ping or browse to so I can see if I can access the required sites outside of GBPVR?

Do a search of the forum for "comics" (search is in top right), as this was asked before and I do not have the src code at hand to look through it.

Do you have any other software installed that monitors network data?

Doing a search for Comics I found the relevant urls and was able to access them via internet explorer, so no problems there.

I do not have anything else monitoring network traffic, apart from perhaps Norton Antivirus?

Any other suggestions please?

Keep looking, there is definitely something on your machine that is stopping the GB-PVR comics plugin from accessing the internet.

Try disabling Norton Antivirus briefly to check that.

Do you use zap2it/bleb for your EPG and does this work for you?

I have tried disabling Nortons, and then closing as many processes as I could through task manager, all to no result.

I dont use an EPG at all. (I am probably one of the few gbpvr users that dont use it for TV stuff at all, mainly picture viewing, videos, music, and interenet radio ;-).

If it's any further help for suggestions I am in New Zealand, using Jetstream broadband, via Paradise.net

There is no settings in GB-PVR that effect this, so you've not got anything in GB-PVR configured incorrectly.

The error message is simply saying that GB-PVR is unable to connect to the machine across internet. There is something on your machine stopping this connection from happening, or you have a proxy server that is getting in the way. You will find it is stopping comics, weather and net radio.

I'm also a Paradise.net user.
