It took a while but I've no got GB-PVR set up and it's working REALLY good. One thing i'm not entirely pleased with though (and I'm sure this is not the fault of GB-PVR itself) is that when use VMR9 the colors get a bit "watered out". I think that it's mainly the black point that is too low so I get deep grey instead of black. It's actually the same in zoom-player when running on VMR9, in overlay it looks good in both applications though. I could ofcouse use overlay but then I don't get the fancy alpha channel effects on the OSD and also I can't change aspect ratio. Is there any way that I can adjust the brightness? For example is there some sort of general settings for VMR9 that would be used in all applications?

Also, is there a way to change that AR with the Hauppauge remote (PVR-150)? IF there isn't isn't one of the "color buttons" unused, could this be assigned to that button?

Cheers,
Patrik.

ok so this is old and dead, but it is a question that is worth answering here

look at this thread over at avsforum for the full explanation, and if you are making your own HTPC, you should
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...ost5378991

but the important information is that dvds and video dont actually use black as black or white as white... or in words that make sense, black on a dvd is level 16 not level 0, and white is level 235 not level 255.

why does this matter? because vmr9 and overlay handle this differently, vmr9 passes colors without changing them, and overlay changes them so black is 0 not 16 etc... this is why your blacks are grey, you calibrated your display to PC levels not DVD levels.

Patrik,

If your running a nvidia card and have a dvi connected display you may want to have a read on page 11. ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/91.33/..._Notes.pdf

Video color‐space range for DVI‐only1 outputs is erroneously set to
standard mode (16‐235) instead of extended mode (0‐255).
A new detection feature to apply Standard CSC mode to TV outputs
(including NTSC, PAL, 480i, and 576i), included DVI-only outputs by
mistake.
1. “DVI-only” means only one display is connected, and it is to the DVI output.

Note: The driver correctly applies extended mode to analog outputs, and
standard mode to TV outputs (including NTSC, PAL, 480i, and 576i).
A future driver release will correct this and apply the extended-mode color
space to DVI-only outputs.
You can work around this issue by forcing either standard or extended mode
as follows:
1 Launch regedit and determine the current primary display card by
looking in
HKey_Local_Machine\Hardware\DeviceMap\Video
and note the GUID (global unique identifier assigned by Windows),
which is the long string in brackets { } at the end of the entry
ʺ\device\video0ʺ.
2 Look in
HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\
{GUID}\0000
where {GUID} is the number derived from the previous step.
3 Open the ʺ0000ʺ directory and create a new DWORD called
VMRCCCSStatus and give it a value of
0x3 ‐ to force use of the standard YUV range of 16‐235
0x1 ‐ to force use of the extended YUV range of 0‐255
