If anyone here has used USB 2.0 external harddrive as the location to record? I am thinking about purchasing an external harddrive, so I can record all the program for achiving, and I can also hold the ISO of my purchased DVD.

It also can be used for automatic backup of important stuff from your main PC which has the WinTV-150 card.

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

I don't do my recordings onto USB drives but I do archive my recordings onto them off of my internal drive. They work great.

for archiving it is a good idea. For recording..... the problem is gbpvr periodically checks for the file if it does not exist it deletes its info from the database. I was planning on writing an command line export for xrecord for this case so the data is perserved after the recording is finished. The other option is to archive it. If you use xrecord and want to be able to export after the recording is finished let me know and I will work on it this week.

Jorm -

The video archive plug-in already capture all of this information into its datasbe as each recording is made (assuming that the video archive plug-in DLL is loaded; the plug-in does not have to be active at the trime). Maybe you could integarte this into xrecord so that we don't end up with the same info floating around in multiple places.

I'm recording to C: and then moving/archiving to an external hd. One major pro of this is that I can keep disk defragmentation at a reasonable level.

Regarding XRecord, I really like to have the info availible in plain text format so I easily can get it from explorer (other scripts really) without having to incoperate a DB interface.

Jeff I use the plain text file so I can transport the movie easily from my machine to my friends without replacing his database.

I would like for XRecord to export automatically. real useful I think. Just got the latest version, great to have settings in the config panel, thanks to you and I believe Ron22 for doing this.

Thanks for the prompt response. I was hoping that I can send recording to USB drive which will keep my primary drive relatively free of fragmentation.

I wonder if XRecord or the Recording Function of GB-PVR can export files to USB drive automatically, it will be great too.

I was not sure when Jorm was saying that it periodically checks to see if the recording do exists otherwise it delets it. I am using moded Xbox to view the recordings into other room through Samba share, so I can be careless if gbpvr does not retain any info.

Can gbpvr be made to look at the USB drive since it is going to be the primary drive for the recording?

Anyway, I am going to get my external harddrive today, and I am going to see if I can send the recording directly to it.

You will be able to see the recordings on the drive with the external viewer. What I was saying is that if you disconnect the drive for a hour and plug it back in and go into gbpvr it will not show the recordings any more. However the file will still exist on the machine.

If you use xrecord or video archiver it will still show them afterward if you use the archiving functions.

Lucas_24,
Let me work on that.

My experience is that you will fragment the drive you record to. (I guess this is because it's hard for windows to know the size of the file when starting writing to it. And that's why there exists special apps for this out there...)
This is why I move the files to another drive to get it together again. Once the file is moved C: is of course not fragmented anymore...
