I've tried both looking through this forum & on the wiki but I can't find any information about how icons are gathered in MyVideos.

I've just installed it and I've started doing episode lookups on most of my series recordings, however it's not returning an icon image - is it because of the change to TV.com from TVTome?

Is there any way to set them other than create thumbnail, or an advanced usage of create thumbnail (as it's picked up the end of the opening credits on a couple of south park episodes).

Thanks in advance,

tv.com doesnt have an icon for every show, look at the site and see if there is an icon for the show. if there is and its not showing up, do a show lookup ("TV.com" lookup) on the folder, so the show is added to the database, and then whenever you do a lookup for a show with the same name, the icon should be added.

if the video has been paused, it will use the paused point (rounded down to the nearest second) to get the thumbnail, so chances are you just stopped it before the end (ie in the credits) so thats why you are getting the credit thumbnails. if there is no paused point found, it will generate a thumbnail at a random point in the video (from any frame, from the first to last).

the best way to do it, well the way i do it, is lookup the show on imdb.com (it still has the best info, cast, better description there are too many tv.com descriptions saying "Well to the [SHOWNAME] site at TVTome.com ...."), then do a "Amazon Poster" lookup (if the show has come out on dvd/video). then when you do a episode lookup, it will look in the database for the show (to fill in the missing information like the tagline, certification etc). a lot of work, yeah but you only have to do it for the shows you keep, so ive only ever done this process about 20-30 times (not that big of a deal).

OK I follow all that. But what if I already have the images for the show, is there anyway I can use images already in my HD (e.g. dump them in a folder with an appropriate naming convention?) that would really help in my case.

Thanks

Wow, I didn't know "My Videos" could generate thumb's from the video itself. How do you get it to do this? Just pause the video where you want it? Then what?

This is a really cool feature.

Thanks

Go to the video or folder, press F11 (or whatever you have it assigned to on the remote) and then edit, then generate thumbnail.

I think that's correct, I only installed 'My Videos' yesterday so I haven't played with it much.

If you have the images already, you just have to save them as jpeg in the folder "art" in the GBPVR directory with the same name as is being used when the show is recorded - e.g. Desperate Housewives.jpg, Reno 911!.jpg, etc. I do that for shows I cannot find images for automatically.
Hope that helped.

i think thats just in xrecord.

in my videos just place the image eg D:\my videos\doctor who\doctor who - pilot.jpg in the same location as D:\my videos\doctor who\doctor who - pilot.avi. it will add that image to the database and then delete it.

you can shortcut to generate a thumbnail by using ctrl-o, or the noname button on the 34 button remote, or the "*" button on the 45 button remote. it doesnt work for mpeg2 files.

Cool, thats what I was looking for. I like the fact that you can change it too this way, if you've already used generate or something. I'm starting to really like My Videos.
