I've got a hauppauge 350 and when I try to view live tv in GB-PVR I get a black screen stating 'Video is playing back using TV Out'. I can correct this problem by using a software decoder, but I'd like to use the 350's hardware decoder. I don't get this problem in any other PVR's (I'm trying alot of them at the moment) so it's not a problem with the card... any ideas as to what's causing this and how to fix it?

The hardware decoder in the PVR350 only works when you're using the tv-out on the card. It can't be used in software or by other devices.

nkh is correct. The hardware decoder in the PVR350 only works when you're using the tv-out on the card. If you need to see the video on you PC desktop, you need to set GB-PVR to use software decoding. The onboard decoder will not help you if you want to display video on the desktop.

Any other PVR software you find that can work with the PVR350 will have this same limitation.

wow those were quick replies. Thanks for your comments, I didn't realise that only applied to the TV-out. I guess the other PVR's I've tried just realise that I'm not using TV out or something...

Looks like GB-PVR's going to become a really great PVR. I've already set meedio to load it up for TV and if new versions bring a greater level of audio handeling (like meedio does) then meedio will be wiped off my pc pretty quickly.

Some perform software decoding to the PC monitor at the same time as they use the hardware decoder to the TV out. This is what you'll be seeing.

When only the hardware decoder is being used, your CPU usage will be able 5%.

I'm getting an interesting problem which appears to be related to playback of live tv and hauppage recorded files only.
Other video (e.g. divx encoded) plays back fine, but live tv for example appears in an 'ActiveMovie Window' rather than full-screen with the OSD superimposed.
I think this is possibly something to do with incorrect drivers, but have downloaded the latest from hauppage site and run hwclear then reinstalled 18A drivers with no luck.
Any suggestions?

jchasey, are you using a PVR350 tv out - or have you just posted in a random topic?

Anyway, this can occur if you using an MPEG2 decoder which is incompatible with your renderer (for example Cyberlink MPEG2 decoder wont work with VMR9). Try some different combinations.

not using tvout on my 350 - apologies for wrong thread.

Switching to Cyberlink decoder (as opposed to default) with Overlay Manager solves the problem.

thanks
