Couple questions from a newbie

Hello folks, I've been building my first pvr and had a couple questions I was hoping someone could help with. Firstly, The sound is very quiet in PVR, i've got my computer system volume turned all the way up and the TV playing through GB-PVR is still quiet, is there any way to adjust this? Also, the picture quality is acceptable when running in windowed mode, however when I go to full screen, it gets very choppy. Is this a problem of not having enough RAM (only 256 MB currently) or something else? Finally, is there any way to program additional actions to unused buttons on the remote that came with my PVR-150? Thanks!

What spec is your machine, and what video decoder are you using?

The computer is running with:
AMD athlong xp 1800
Hauppauge PVR-150
ati radeon 9200 (composite out)
256 MB generic ram
DVD burner
2 40 MB harddrives

I've installed the latest drivers from hauppauge, and I'm using this decoder:
Name: hcwsmd05.exe
Version: 5.0_23017
Size: 2156K
Updated: Jan. 17, 2005

You defintely need more RAM

And you better mean 2 40 GB HDs in stead of megabytes

Oops, yep 40 GB, not MB. Do you think adding more ram would solve the stuttering problem? Thanks for the reply

Yes, I think more RAM would definetilety help your stuttering problem. But as a test, While running GB-PVR, open up the task manager and go to the performence tab. See how much RAM/Physical memory is being used.

Another possibitlity is that your proccessor may not be able to handle the load, but his is highly unlikely unless your have other resource conduming proccess running.

Windows XP SP2 and later provide a default volume taper to allow applications to use the same volume taper as the operating system, on MCE machines this table is automatically enabled, on non-MCE machines it is disabled.

The system volume taper table can be enabled or disabled by editing the EnableVolumeTable value at the following registry location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\Audio\VolumeControl

The same registry location also has a VolumeTable value - edit at your own risk.

In terms of volume this can be thought of as ‘the perceived increase in volume is the same when increasing the volume level from 0×5000 to 0×6000 as it is from 0×4000 to 0×5000’.

I'm running a lower spec machine. I have no stuttering problems. I would try a different decoder and/or check your HD. Do you have your OS on one HD and your recordings on the other? It might help. Do you know how big the buffer is on your HD's?
