Hi,

I'm moving my PVR setup onto my small mini-itx machine. I've installed GB-PVR and everything nicely, but the problem is that no video plays. I've tried playing DivX and the audio seems to play, but that's all. I've tried playing a show I recorded, but nothing shows up. The screen display just stays on the folder view.

I'm using a Via SP13000, and Windows 2000. I've installed DirectX9, and all of the videos I've tried played fine in VideoLan.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks

Sounds to me like you'd wanna try switching codecs...

Soundslike you dont have a divx decoder installed. Do the same files play in Windows Media Player?

Hey. Instaled divx & made sure I had WMP all uptodate.

Things that play in WMP, play in GBPVR now. Still a few problems.

The video playback stops (audio continues) when the OSD is on, and catches up when it goes off.
I can't playback what I recorded with GBPVR on another machine.
The remote control gets disable once any video playback starts.

Id anyone has ideas for any of those problems just I'd really appreciate the help or pointers.

Sounds like your machine doesnt have enough grunt to keep up. This is a common problem for VIA EPIA owners.

You can improve this a little for MPEG2 playback by making sure you're using a decoder that can using your EPIA's MPEG2 accelleration (like Cyberlink Decoder). There isnt much you can do for Divx.

I have an epia M10000, and had those problems, too. I did install the cyberlink decoder. Another thing that seems to have made the problem a bit better is to use overlay instead of vmr7/9. But maybe I'm just imagining things :-)

Yeah, Overlay requires less CPU than VMR.

That's not why I switched to overlay, though. The actual reason was that the epiaConfused have a much better image adjusting tool for tv-out (or perhaps for monitor, too?) when using overlay than when using vmr9. The smoother picture I found out about afterwards :-)

Cool - I'll switch to overlay so anyway, and see what happens. I think I need to throw in more RAM, see if that'll make a difference. I thought the 1.3ghz chip would mean a more responsive system, especially given the machine I tested it on was only a Pentium 1.6 *shrug* Hopefully I can tweak settings to improve performance though.

Where can I get the Cyberlink Decoder?

I'll let you know how I get on, and if I find any decent tips/tweaks I'll post them up.

Thanks all!

I don't know about the 13000, but the 10000 is pretty much as fast as a PIII600. The cyberlink decoder you can get from the powerdvd (or is it powercinema?) product.
