Dream Machine - Starting from Scratch - TV via coax
Posted by: Seanmike - 2014-12-05, 03:55 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (28)

Guys and gals,

I'd like feedback on a good, close to best, setup on a brand new system based on what I have to work with. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Please move if my noob experience put this in the wrong discussion area.

Budget $1000 or less
TV input Standard cable via coax, no set top box - Splitter sending one coax to cable modem/wifi and the other coax free to system
AV Receiver 5.1 surround, HDMI input and output - Sound output
TV Samsung 46" Smart TV, HDMI input - TV output

What I'm looking for is a good base desktop with speed to record while watching live TV. Also looking for 1080i TV (HD for HD channels) and full surround sound for channels that support this too.

I build PC's without issues and I am not intimidated in the least bit Smile Here is what I'd like input based on above info. Let me know if further details are needed.

Desktop fast base model with windows 8 installed (or Win 7 but hard to find) or motherboard, chipset combo deemed good - Prefer first to save time and for system compatibility already ironed out with OS
TV Tuner Ability to take standard USA cable with no set top box
Video Card HDMI output, no need for gaming or DVD as the PS4 has this part covered
Audio 5.1 surround, can work with video card to either send digital sound via one HDMI cable or via optical

Thanks in advance guys!

  Network Recorder not in devices
Posted by: Akran - 2014-12-05, 01:36 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hello,

I have a Ceton InfiniTV device I am trying to set up using NPVR and SageDCT. I have followed all of the instructions thoroughly and after copying the Network Recorder dll and xml to the NPVR folder (with NPVR stopped), I do not get any Network Recorder device showing up in NPVR. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything and any suggestions I could find by googling but to no avail. My log files are attached and any help would be appreciated.

"Unable to start device. Device failed to start" (Windows Server 2012 R2)
Posted by: RafaelGM - 2014-12-04, 08:07 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hi,

I have a USB TV card (MyGica S870) and have been using NextPVR 3.3.8 on Windows 8.1 and got no problems. Now I need to move it to another computer running Windows Server 2012 R2, but got this message when I try to scan for channels:

Quote:"Unable to start device. Device failed to start"

What I've tried:

- Activating BDA support, following steps like these:
https://knowledge.zomers.eu/dvblogic/Pag...-2012.aspx
http://marcowuen.wordpress.com/2012/08/1...r-2008-r2/
http://www.tenniswood.co.uk/technology/w...rver-2012/

- Installing the "BDA_R2__TV_Card_.msi" file from here:
http://www.buydvb.net/blog/how-to-setup-...08-r2.html

- Installing codecs, like CCCC, SAF, k-Lite (MEGA)

The logs are attached, but the main part (I think) is this:

Quote:2014-12-04 17:47:57.518 [INFO][1] About to start BDA graph
2014-12-04 17:47:57.519 [DEBUG][1] Starting graph...
2014-12-04 17:47:57.520 [DEBUG][1] Failed to start device: 0x80004002
2014-12-04 17:47:57.524 [DEBUG][1] Removing filter MPEG-2 Sections and Tables
2014-12-04 17:47:57.524 [DEBUG][1] Removing filter BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter
2014-12-04 17:47:57.524 [DEBUG][1] Removing filter MPEG-2 Demultiplexer

Any help would be appreciated, please! Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Rafael Monteiro

Everything else is working fine with npvr.

My OS is Windows 8.1

The firewall is disabled.

I tried downloading and installing NEWA v2.15 and v.1.34 and both gave the same error.

Any ideas? Is there a way to add more debug info to the exception?

Is there a way to play .iso files in NPVR/Movies? That doesn't seem to work for me. I can play them in VLC.

  Dish Network capture card
Posted by: 2 lostsouls - 2014-12-03, 05:09 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I am totally new to DVR and PVR. But I am experienced with computers. So I am going to do a project and build a PVR and see if I can get rid of most of my cable bills. Me question is this:

I have Dish Network . So I receive my channels over a satellite. What video capture card/tuner card internal do I need for my computer? I want the best so I get good HD reception. Also, do I have to have an antenna installed to use an OTA card? Thank you.

Connect HDMI or SCART to computer?
Posted by: Graham - 2014-12-03, 11:45 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

I know nothing of set top boxes and any help would be appreciated. I have an STB with only HDMI and SCART outputs (it's a Youview box for those in the UK who might know of such a thing). What would be a a good way to connect the STB to NextPVR?

I have looked at the various versions of the Hauppauge HD-PVR and Colussus. They are a tad expensive. Will they do what I want? Is there something cheaper?

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Does anyone know if HDCP content protection will get in the way if I try an HDMI connection?

  imageGrabLite missing a rename
Posted by: snagglewest - 2014-12-03, 03:44 AM - Forum: Add-ons (3rd party plugins, utilities and skins) - Replies (21)

First let me say how much I appreciate imageGrabLite, it's awesome! I've got one glitch though, it won't rename "The Flash" for some reason. I've attached the logs, which look like they are actually finding the show information but it's just not renaming it. I've got imageGrabLite in my postprocessing.bat but nothing special in there just "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\imagegrablite.exe" --oid %3 --rename --zap2it

Any ideas?

  NextPVR or WMC? Cablecards....
Posted by: aladine - 2014-12-03, 02:26 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello everyone,

I am building a HTPC that will be replacing my DVR. I will be using a HDHomeRun PRIME with a cablecard. With that apparently there is a DRM issue that cablelabs requires some licence that WMC has. I will probibly use XBMC (KODI) as the front end just to keep everything easy.

So in a nut shell is there any reason I should us WMC rather than NextPVR? I really like how you can customize something and have the built in commercial remover.
