  Support for Channel-Groups in x-newa?
Posted by: JavaWiz - 2014-08-23, 02:07 AM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (7)

When using the TV guide in x-newa, is there any way to leverage the channel-groups defined in NextPVR?

Download latest linux build of NPVR addon (for RPi)
Posted by: wheeliemonster - 2014-08-22, 05:20 PM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (5)

Hi guys,

I've got two installs of XBMC, one running on a laptop using XBMCbuntu and another on a RPi, using OpenElec.

The XBMCbuntu install is running perfectly, using the NPVR addon for XBMC, which has now updated to version 1.9.10.

The RPi install is not working, however. I usually get the "Tuner not available" message, but have on occasion been able to get audio but no video.
I get audio but no video on Recordings as well as Live TV.

I'm using OpenElec 4.1.4 which uses XBMC Gotham 13.2RC, but it's still using the 1.9.7 version of the NPVR addon.

Is there anywhere I can download a build of 1.9.10 for this? I assume that OpenElec uses a 32-bit install of linux, where my XBMCbuntu is (I think) 64-bit.

Thanks for any and all help.

PS - I have the MPG2 license for my RPi but not the VC-1. Would I need both for NPVR to work?

  NextPVR 3.2.9 and Remote Controls
Posted by: georgewbateman - 2014-08-21, 04:23 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

There does not seem to be any CURRENT information about remote controls that is relevant to NextPVR 3.2.9.

I have a FireFly remote. I have set “Handle MCE remote events” and I am able navigate all of the menus. However during playback only the “exit” keys is processed. Is there a way to configure NextPVR to use stop, play, skip, etc. during playback ? I have not found complete, coherent configuration documentation on FireFly. There are a configuration profiles for other applications but they do not seem to make much sense. Is there any truly useful information about configuring FireFly ? I would like to send commands only to NextPVR even though the Windows program focus is on another application. I sometimes use Media Player Classic and would like to use the remote to control MPC. (In know there is a conflict there) Is that possible ? If so how – again the documentation.

The driver for the remote is a generic X10 driver. Do I even need FireFly software ? Is software required above the driver level ? I have read briefly about LM Remote Keymap. The claim is that it replaces FireFly. True or False ? Has anyone used it ? Did it work ?

Alternately, would a newer remote solve the above problems ? The Wiki has images of Hauppauge and Microsoft remotes. (I could not find either the Hauppauge or Microsoft remotes in their respective websites. Are FireFly, Hauppauge and Microsoft all out of the MCE remote business ?) I have to believe that there are other remotes that will also work. Are there any recommended remotes ? Are there remotes to avoid ?

As you can tell my search has left me with more questions than answers. Thank you in advance for any clarity you can bring.

  NEWA not showing EPG
Posted by: heatvent - 2014-08-19, 09:32 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (2)

I am using SD as my EPG source and when I go to the NEWA page, I don't get any tv listings. I tried updating to the most recent version of NEWA but that didn't seem to fix anything. Is this a known issue or is anyone else experiencing?

Looking for some advice for XBMC Live TV
Posted by: heatvent - 2014-08-19, 09:30 PM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (6)

I am using XBMC as the frontend on a RPi with OpenElec. The Pi is connected to a wireless bridge which I have used to connect a SageTV extender in the past and had no issues. My problem is when I try to watch livetv with NPVR I get no tuner available if I select a HD channel first. If I start with a SD channel, it takes bout 9-10 seconds but connects. I can then change to HD or SD channels and it seems to be much more responsive 3-5 sec per channnel change. Any reason why the startup is so slow and/or errors out? Is there anything I can do to tweak/improve?

I am pretty sure the wireless connection is a bit of the problem because I don't see the same issue on my PC which is hard wired. However, the connection has been fast enough for SageTV and I also tried MythTV as the backend to XBMC and don't seem to have the same issue.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just doing some browsing and I always thought npvr used the output txt file of comskip for the commercials, but then I found a thread that said it used the edl. Which one is it?

Thanks.

Questions about Scraping from thetvdb and themoviedb
Posted by: craigrs84 - 2014-08-19, 05:30 PM - Forum: Developers - No Replies

I'm trying to create my own scraper that reads from the scheduled_recordings table and then tries to map each record to an entry from thetvdb.com or themoviedb.org

I've got a few questions that I'm hoping some people can weigh in on with advice or past experience.

1. Both thetvdb and themoviedb say you shouldn't call their services too frequently. What's the best strategy for caching the data and then periodically updating it? Is it just a matter of downloading the data and remembering the date that you downloaded it, and then the next time the data is requested you compare the downloaded date vs the current date, and if a certain amount of time has elapsed then re-download it?

thetvdb also has a url that you can call, pass in a timestamp, and it will give you back a list of items that have changed since the last time you called the url, but I'm wondering if this actually causes more downloading activity than the strategy discussed above. also i didn't see a similar option for themoviedb and if possible i'd like the code/strategy to be consistent between the two.

2. Specifically for thetvdb, what's the best strategy for matching the series. for tvdb you actually have to make multiple calls to their service, once to search for the series, and then potentially multiple times to download each series that is returned in the search results. is it best to just download all the series first and then scan them all for the best matching episode. or do you always try to narrow it down to a specific series first and only download that specific series rather than the full list returned in the search results. if the 2nd option is taken, is there a reliable way to match the series... many times the series name doesn't match up exactly with the title recorded by npvr/guide data. there's a zap2it id that can be more reliable but it's not always populated in tvdb. there's a first aired date but I'm not sure how reliable that is... etc.

Here's an example of thetvdb series search: http://thetvdb.com/api/GetSeries.php?seriesname=Reign

Thanks for your help.

  Upgrading from MVP to ?
Posted by: sut - 2014-08-19, 02:26 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (55)

I have been using a old MVP for ages and figure its time to upgrade and do away with the MVP. I don't understand how the nextpvr works or what way would be the best to use, do I buy a popcorn hr and use that for my remote control or do I use just the computer with the nextpvr software . I also want to add another tuner to be able to record 4 TV shows at 1 time and I am not sure what way to go on that, would a usb tuner work ok or should I just buy a internal card . Thx for the help with this its been so long since I had to do anything to my system I have lost 95 % of my knowledge on this matter
