I just found out about NPVR tonight and started trying to use it. I have zero experience in PVR/DVR software. I loaded it and it went pretty well. I searched and found all the channels. The picture is great but I have no sound. Sound works great with all other software, etc and I have checked volume setting.
My computer is an HP laptop - dv7-6c95dx. I am using a fairly old (but still working) Pinnacle ProStick tuner. I would think it is a codec/decoder issue but I have no idea where to start. I appreciate your help.
One other thing - when I right click on the screen, where it says "Audio Stream", to the right it says 'Disabled'. Is this the problem and if so how do I change it?
Basically our Live TVâs audio is fine, but on most of our Filmâs however the audio is low. This is with the volume at max on Win7. We end up using Windows Explorer to navigate our films and VLC to play them, as we can then increase the volume past 100%. Iâve found that weâve completely stopped using NextPVR for films so we miss out on the all-in-one media experience and the pictures and info that come with it.
Our nephews have gotten to the age where they know how to use NextPVR (So proud! ).
Iâm looking for a way to implement parental control on both TV and Media folders (Movies / TV Series). I was thinking of the following examples:
Example
In the settings, on the Channel category, implementing a tick box next to each channel to enable parental control. Then, when the channel is selected on the EPG a PIN is needed to view it. The PIN is set in the settings. Also access to the settings could be limited with this PIN as well, to stop the settings being altered by unauthorised persons.
Example 2
In the settings, on the Media Folders category, again a tick box for parental control next to each added folder.
I could select a folder called âFilms - Over 16âsâ and have it restricted to PIN access when itâs accessed in the Video folder. Perhaps the same with Music and Pictures.
Recordings on my Colossus - which is set to record from an HDMI feed with HDMI audio - all run at something like double speed, both when played in NPVR and also by VLC. Is this some decoder or codec problem? A possibly related problem is that there is no audio whne played through NPVR, although when played through XMBC or VLC the audio is there. Everything works fine with NOvA-DB DT tuners.
I looked in the XBMC forum, but couldn't see a really satisfactory answer, but I'm curious.
I can see XBMC usefulness as a standalone system with HTPC.

Why XBMC with NPVR at all?
You still need Windows as the NPVR Server right? So you can't get away from that.
My new DVB-T stick is a Realtek device which includes tuners for DAB radio and FM radio. It came with Blaze which recognises these tuners and allows scanning and playback.
