  Losing recordings after transcoding
Posted by: ttfitz - 2013-01-24, 08:30 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (23)

In my quest to learn about using NPVR more fully, I've been looking at how to keep my transcoded videos from disappearing from the recordings database. I can't seem to keep them around - I have looked at the options in config.xml, and I have tried with CheckForRenamedRecordings set to true, and AutoRemoveMissingRecordings both true and false, and neither one works.

Is it possible to keep a recording in the list without using NScripthelper?

Thanks.

New HTPC usage - NPVR, or XMBC with NPVR?
Posted by: ttfitz - 2013-01-24, 08:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I've been a long time user of NPVR (and gbpvr before that), but only for recording shows with a variety of tuners (first just clear-qam, now both clear-qam and cablecard). I've never used the program for live television viewing or watching the recordings. The tuners have always been attached to my computer in the office, and recordings were watched via DLNA server (tversity) to my PS3 in the family room.

But now, I'm looking to move to a full HTPC computer in the family room, complete with it's own tuners (DCR-2650), with the idea being to get rid of the cable company DVR. So, I've been considering what sort of system I want to be running for the full television experience, and see what NPVR has to offer there. I've noticed some traffic here lately about a new integration into XBMC, and since I've heard good things about XBMC, I thought I'd give that a look. I've tried it out a bit with my current machine, and while there is much to like with what I've seen of XBMC, the integration of NPVR is a little sketchy in places at the moment. I'm sure it will get better, but I'm looking at now.

So, I guess I'm looking for some thoughts from those who use NPVR in a more complete fashion, and hopefully from some who might have experience with both. For example, what sort of thing can I get done with XBMC that I can't in just NPVR?

My expected use for the HTPC:

1) Live TV, including timeshifting
2) Recorded shows and playback
3) Other video playback (movies, TV shows recorded on my other computer, etc)
4) Occasional streamed internet video, particularly from ESPN3.com and Comedy Central (Daily Show extended interviews)

Other things I don't do at present, but might want to do later:

1) Other streaming video (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu)

So, any thoughts? Advice? Cookie recipes?

Thanks in advance.

  Hauppage 950q - Before I buy
Posted by: Nuttyguy - 2013-01-24, 02:43 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I just wanted to make sure the analog NTSC side of the 950q works great with NextPVR (using softPVR) before I purchase. I pay for basic analog cable (the 60+ channels) and do not need a cable box to pick up the channels on my tv. In the US, does that mean all I need is an analog NTSC tuner to pick up those channels?

Would anybody suggest anything other then the hauppage 950q? Dual tuner support isn't needed (might be fun though) and I don't need digital channels or HD support.

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

  Plugin not working
Posted by: digidad - 2013-01-24, 02:16 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (10)

Server: NextPVR 2.5.9 with R2 patches
Clients: xbmc Frodo RC3

Plugin is configured and enabled. EPG, Recordings list, etc.. bring back data.

When I select a recorded show to play it, the video never plays. Same behavior on Windows & Android makes me think I missed something on the server side. Pretty straight forward setup though - I can't imagine what I missed.

The R2 patch should incorporate the NShared.dll fix - correct?

What log to upload?

  NPVR interface hangs
Posted by: ottoguy - 2013-01-23, 11:58 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Sometimes when doing simple things like moving through a menu or the guide the interface just hangs for a few seconds. It was doing it again tonight and I was able to catch it in the log file. The log file still doesn't show much but just that executing the command took 6000ms for some commands. Any suggestions?

Can't Get Past "nDroid service upgrade required" Message During v1.8.4 Install
Posted by: rogerjenn - 2013-01-23, 06:54 PM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (11)

Hi,

I installed the current version of NextPVR which runs as expected on my 64-bit Windows 7 development machine.

I downloaded and installed the nDroid Service v1.8.4.0 on the dev machine with all defaults, and opened the Windows Firewall (all ports) for nDroid Service exe file. I verified that the service is running.

I installed the Android Client App v1.8.4 from Google Play on my Nexus 7, set the IP address to that of my dev machine running the service and set the password to that for the NextPVR Web app. I am running a Fiddler2 proxy on this machine for debugging Nexus 7 apps. All apps connecting to the Internet run fine with the proxy running.

I received a Username/Password error, which I corrected by setting the correct password on the nDroid service.

Now I receive a "nDroid service upgrade required" message every time I attempt to start the Nexus 7 app.

I would have enclosed a zip of the log files from the Nexus 7, but don't know where they are.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

--rj

Remove requirement for file share on server
Posted by: digidad - 2013-01-23, 04:34 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

It occurred to me the other day while playing with xbmc that the only information required to configure the PVR plugin is the server, port and PIN code. Are there any plans to remove the file share requirement for the NextPVR client and push everything through the same port? It seems this would simplify things.

  Buffered playback for client machines?
Posted by: digidad - 2013-01-23, 04:25 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I saw this listed on another posting as an advantage for using XBMC as a frontend.

mvallevand Wrote:buffering player is great with wifi

It guess I had always taken for granted that NPVR was buffering, but this statement would imply that it is not.

My client machine is connected via 300Mbit Wireless N and is generally rock solid. Occasionally I am kicked back to the Recordings menu with no resume option however. I suppose this could be the result of momentary wireless interference. If playback was buffered, I would likely not even notice.

Are there any plans to add buffered playback for NextPVR clients?

Does HDHomerun Dual work on NextPVR?
Posted by: youngster - 2013-01-23, 02:55 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

The tuners show up under Devices. But when I scan I get nothing.

Is this perhaps a result of the tuners already being in use by WMC?

(BTW...I'm just attempting a simple scan of ATSC OTA frequencies)
