Help with firewire Rogers 4642HD box Win 7 X64
Posted by: jam_zhou - 2012-11-08, 08:38 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I've been reading a little about firewire capture...can someone point me to how to get it to work with the following setup?

Rogers 4642HD box
Win 7 x64
h55m-usb3 gigabyte mobo

I was going to use IR blasting but I'd prefer firewire for both capture and channel change...one less capture card to deal with.

Thanks.

Channel Changing using mini-guide - H264 Decoder Behaviours?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2012-11-08, 05:42 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (12)

Not sure if this is just luck, but I have been playing with a number of H264 Decoders, and trying to change from one ch. to another using the miniguide. I've been reading there is not much difference in quality of H264/AVC decoders, but they really behave different in channel changes .. any idea why?

How would I to try to get better channel changes with the ones that seem to give a good pic?

V-Video, A-Audio

  1. CoreAVC - V&A on 1st Chan, but seeing about 1/8 of screen like the Video would be really big. Craps out with fuzzy lines when changing to the 2nd Chan.
  2. Cyberlink - V&A works on both Chan, slick channel changes, but top and sometimes bottom of screen "wobbles".
  3. ffdshow- V&A works on 1st Chan, GREAT pic, but channel change results ONLY in Audio from Chan 2, not the Video (which stays on a still from Ch 1)???. Exiting and going back in again to Ch2 works fine.
  4. LAV Video Decoder - No Video (black Screen) but AUDIO is fine. Mini-guide does not appear. (oddly I see the tray icon for CoreAVC pop up briefly).
  5. DivX H264 Video Decoder - No Video (black Screen) but AUDIO is fine. Mini-guide does not appear. No tray icon.
  6. ATI MPEG Video Decoder - No Video OR Audio.
I also tried registering MPCVideoDec.ax from MPC-HC standalone filters. No go, same as 6.

I would use (3) IF it change channels better. Any suggestions to make it do this??
If all these decoders are supposed to be similar, why do some show Video, and some neither, and some change channels better?

k.

Methods and Standards For Gathering Screenshots
Posted by: georgewbateman - 2012-11-08, 07:43 AM - Forum: NPVR Documentation - Replies (8)

I would like to submit some new documentation segments for wiki. I want to include some screen shots from NPVR. I have not been able to anything about including screenshots in the documentation. I must admit that I have never gathered a screen shot before. I have Windows 7 Ultimate. What utility do I use to gather the screen shot ? What format should should it be ? png, gif, or ? What size should it be ? It seems to me that there is a standard for this.

Thank you in advance.

Does NextPVR use the "C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\TempRec\TempSBE2" folder?
Posted by: McBainUK - 2012-11-08, 07:37 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

My HDD disk space is getting eaten up behind the scenes, I found C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\TempRec\TempSBE gets full wih 498.8MB files.

Is this folder anything todo with NextPVR or Haupauge TV cards

Is pausing LiveTV supposed to work in timeshifting mode? I paused for minute or so and when I came back XBMC played a bit and hung (I had to kill the task)

Block shutdown while recording prevent Win7 close session?
Posted by: Handy.Man - 2012-11-08, 04:26 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

The Block shutdown while recording option is very useful.
But it also prevent you from login out or changing user in Win7 x64. Kinda not needed with Use out-of-process digital recording and Use background recording service enabled.
On the bright side, when you continue the logout, recording continue in the background Big Grin

Just too bad it does not prevent suspend ...

But for the last few weeks or since 2.5.5?, the PC no longer goes to sleep mode even when nothing is scheduled, all applications closed.

Can't get streaming to work in or outside home network
Posted by: ScaryBox - 2012-11-08, 03:48 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (29)

Let me start by saying nextpvr and newa are excellent! I havn't been here for a while and I'm quite happy to see how far everything has come along!

Here is my problem. No matter what I do (I've read every forum/post/topic I can find), I can't get streaming to work either inside my home lan/network or outside my lan. As far as I can tell I've opened ports, set virtual server in my router, set up everything ok. I've turned AllowRemoteTranscoding and AllowRemoteStreaming to true in the config.xml. The Admin login to Newa allows me to set the bitrate etc. but VLC will not play a stream. I keep getting a MRL http://myipaddress:7648 cannot play error.

I know everyone is reluctant to give instructions has to how to make all this work for fear of security issues, but I am willing to take the risk.

Question #1: Is the inability to stream built into the Newa interface?
Question #2: Is there a way to get Newa to trancode/compress live tv for a better remote experience. (This doesn't seem to happen automatically.
Question #3: Could it possibly my VLC setup/install that is keeping the streaming from working or interfering with the transcoding of the remote/local stream?

Hopefully someone can help me here. Again, Everything else is working great!

Thanks
Ken

  slow resume on big skips
Posted by: jimbojones - 2012-11-07, 11:17 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is seeing this, the normal skip is working fine, its just when I click on the timeline ,maybe 15-20 minutes ahead it takes maybe 10-20 seconds to resume playback, it didn't use to and i'm wondering if its my machine or since an npvr update.Normal skip is probably as good or better than it has ever been though which is good Smile
