Scientific Atlanta Boxes (power on number press)
Posted by: jam_zhou - 2012-11-04, 11:53 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

So now I have two SA E940 and a SA/Cisco 4642HD to get ready for my big switch over to NPVR!!!

Here's an interesting thing that I've found. For both kinds of digital boxes you can set them to power on by either power button or number button! This to me is of great significance as this now enables a power on function rather than a power toggle! The first number button press is recognized as a button press.

Another thing that I learned was that (for my 4642HD anyway) you can request different firmwares from Rogers. Short story is that I purchased my 4642HD (used $50!!!) and it had the firmware that allowed for power on by number press but soon after Rogers updated the firmware so that it wasn't allowed anymore. I called technical support and got them to change it back!!!

Anyway, my eventual plan is to use a smart power strip - a power bar that controls the power of other outlets depending on a master component (the PC in this case). This way when the computer sleeps all three cable boxes will be off saving me lots of energy and heat buildup.

Hope this helps people!

Manually scheduled programs are recording an hour earlier than scheduled
Posted by: DHL - 2012-11-04, 12:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

In version 2.5.9, it looked like programs would record at the correct times once the switch from daylights savings time was made to standard time, but now the scheduled recordings are recording an hour earlier than scheduled.

Screenshots:

Recurring & Pending
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND] [ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

To temporarily remedy the problem, I added an additional hour to each time in the recurring-backup.xml file, cleared the recurring_recording table and the scheduled_recording table, then imported the modified recurring-backup.xml file, and now while the recurring list is an hour off, the pending recording list depicts the correct record times. The issue applies to all imported recordings.

Here's an entry from the modified XML file (notice that the UTC times are now 7 hours later instead of what should be 6 hours later--this program should record from 4:29 AM to 5:02 AM CDT (Central Standard Time) ):

Incorrect Selection Of Programs To Be Recorded
Posted by: georgewbateman - 2012-11-04, 05:35 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

The selection of programs to be recorded is incorrect in two selections 3 - Record Season (All episodes on this channel) and 8 - Record All Episodes, All Channels).

As background I live in Vancouver Washington. I get 3 PBS stations - two from Portland (OPB and OPBPlus) and one from Seattle (KCTS). I tested using the program Tavis Smiley. It airs 4 times per day on OPBPlus and 1 time per day on KCTS. When I do a Find All the program is aired 41 times total. 34 times on OPBPlus and 7 on KCTS. Each of the options mentioned above record only 9 programs.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate R1 and NPVR 2.5.9R1.

Thank you in advance.

  Hvr1600 drivers
Posted by: pcostanza - 2012-11-04, 02:19 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Anyone know where I can find the Hauppauge HVR1600 drivers? The site shows a driver but the links are dead. I also don't see any files at all at their ftp site. I'm trying to install the device in Windows 8 and it obviously didn't pick it up.

Just noticed the site is down to the hurricane and they direct you to the UK site but no 1600 is listed. AHHHHHH!

Avidemux: Perfectly Cut Out Commercials, Clips, Etc.
Posted by: BTJustice - 2012-11-03, 10:50 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (12)

http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

I have never had really good luck with Comskip. I recently started to use Avidemux to cut commercials out of .TS recordings. This is s simple guide to get you in the right path to doing the same.

First you will need to download Avidemux and install it. There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions so install the one that matches your Windows installation.

What I like to do is right-click on a .TS recording then go to OPEN WITH. Uncheck the box to make it the default program then browse to C:\Program Files\Avidemux and select avidemux.exe. Now you can right-click on .TS recordings and open them directly with Avidemux.

Avidemux will need to index the .TS recording it is opening. It will create an .IDX2 file using the name of the recording in the same folder as the recording. Don't delete these!

Now don't use the left or right arrow keys but instead use the UP and DOWN arrows. UP and DOWN goes through key frames which you have to use to make your cuts. Using left and right will not do this and you will error out when you are ready to re-save the .TS recording.

First you will probably want to cut out the stuff before the start of the show you recorded. Use the UP key to forward to the start of the show. Press the B button in Avidemux which will select the end of the cut. Don't worry about the start as that will already be set to 0:00:00.

Also do the reverse for the end of the show. At the end of the show, just click on A then press DELETE as the the B time will already be set.

So using UP to go forward and DOWN to go back, go to where the commercials start then click the A button. This sets the start. Hold down the UP arrow and go to where the commercials end. Click the B button which sets the end. Now press the DELETE key on your keyboard. The commercials are now cut out.

After I do a deletion, I will hit the down arrow a few times then click PLAY to make sure the cut was good.

If you mess up and cut out too much, all you have to do is close Avidemux and re-open the .TS recording you want to edit.

When you are done with your cuts (or even before), look at the left side of the Avidemux window. VIDEO OUTPUT and AUDIO OUTPUT will be on COPY. Do not change these! OUTPUT FORMAT needs to be changed every time you open Avidemux from AVI MUXER to MPEG TS MUXER. This will preserve the .TS format and information within the .TS file.

Now it is time to save the new .TS file. You CANNOT over-write the existing .TS recording as it is open in Avidemux. What I do is browse to the folder containing the .TS recording I am editing. Left-click on it once so the name gets inputted as the name of the new file. You can easily tell which one it is as it will be followed by the .IDX2 file. Now go up one directory which is usually NPVR's main recording directory (parent directory) then hit SAVE. It will take a few seconds to save the edited .TS recording. Close Avidemux.

Lastly, go to the parent folder you saved the edited .TS recording and drag it to the folder containing the original .TS recording. Over-write the original.

PRO TIP: When you are done working on a folder of recordings, delete ALL BUT THE LAST .IDX2 file listed. Use it as a marker so any new recordings listed after that file let you know they need to be edited Smile

As you get more accustomed to Avidemux, you can re-open edited .TS recording and either save them using a different OUTPUT FORMAT such as .AVI or .MP4. You can also use MCEBuddy and my kick ass guide for it to save your edited .TS files as .MP4 files Smile

  DCR-2650 No Channels Found
Posted by: ga_mueller - 2012-11-03, 07:41 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

As the title says, I'm trying to get the 2650 going as a QAM tuner.
System Info
- no firewall
- no anti virus
- no antispyware

As per the recent post by GlennH, I stopped the NPVR recording service, changed to NextPVR in the HDHomerun setup utility, then restarted the recording service and scanned. One interesting thing is that the HDHomerun setup utility did not detect any tuners, but NPVR obviously did as it scanned, with the green channel 1 light on the 2650 flashing throughout.

Logs attached, thanks for any help.

edit 1: The green cable status light is not lit. Does not light when I remove the splitter, so signal strength is not the problem Also, when installing software, app goes to Hauppauge site (which is down), then exits... I'll poke around further.

edit 2: The 2650 does show up as a network adapter.

edit 3: Was able to fully update software and firmware (Sandy had knocked out Hauppauge server), still no go.

  Insert errors in xbmc.log

I was looking through my xbmc.log for errors and I notice that there are few of these

I notice that in my own EPG the only records with the value of 'Top stories of the week.' in the description are for a show called 'Access Hollywood'

Converting Cable Box EPG to XML EPG Schedules for NPVR?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2012-11-03, 02:31 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (14)

I'm still using TVxB to "scrape" EPG data from websites with schedules, except for one channel DVB (FTA) which seems to work using the inbuilt collector in NVPR. I only watch 6 channels, so it's manageable, just, but requires a lot of maintenance.

HK doesn't have dedicated sites like schedulesdirect for TV Schedules, the websites are getting harder to find, or rather they are moving to Java or something that TVxB, which uses mainly html, cannot read.

However my cable box has an EPG, and I was wondering if I could somehow download this to html, but I have no idea how to get NPVR to access it.

I have read about various formats, and EPGCollector has EIT, MHEG5 etc etc but I am not sure what format the cable box EPG is in.

Would anyone be able to point me to a way to (a) finding out the format and (b) what tools I should be looking at to try to extract the EPG info?

k.
