  X-NEWA Public Beta
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-10-04, 01:33 AM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (87)

Hi, I am happy to post a link to the first public beta of X-NEWA

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...-1.4.9.zip

Feel free to add comments and suggestions and re-read the sticky post for questions, I will try and keep it current until some sort of wiki develops

Thanks to everyone involved in this, analog from MythBox for the original code, Ton for the first GBPVR code this is based on, UJB for the great help adding extra things to NEWA web service to make this work so well, and of course, sub for such a wonderful PVR, a great frontend and backend that keeps getting better.

  Creating Recurring Recordings
Posted by: toricred - 2012-10-04, 12:39 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (21)

I'm looking to move to NextPVR as the backend for my XBMC installation. Is there a way to create a recurring recording without first finding the show in the EPG? I'd like to pre-create my recurring recordings before moving my tuners from FTR to minimize the risk of missing recordings and making the wife and kids angry.

  [KNEWC] Read me first
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-10-03, 09:35 PM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (5)

This forum is for the support of  knewc (Kodi New Client)  If you see one of the following screens, which I call the dashboard you are using knewc and to avoid confusion I hope that everyone refers to it by name and not the the Kodi NextPVR plugin or addon which should refer to sub's excellent Kodi PVR addon  called pvr-nextpvr

The UI client offers pretty much the complete NextPVR look and feel in Kodi using Kodi for playback in both version 4 and 5 of NextPVR

Will NEXT PVR work with this hardware (Hauppauge USB)?
Posted by: TheBearNecessities - 2012-10-03, 02:22 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I've been looking into what hardware to buy to get satellite tv on my computer.

I think I'm going to buy the Hauppauge WinTV Nova-S USB2.

Here's a link in case anyone wants to have a look at it: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products...susb2.html

Has anyone used this bit of kit with Next PVR? How can I find out if it's compatible?

Experience with the Pivos XS and XBMC
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-10-03, 01:14 PM - Forum: X-NEWA - Replies (29)

I thought I'd post my a video of my experience with the PivosXS in linux and Android, I'd expect the RPi would be about the same. Here is an out-of-date video showing an older UI of my plugin running live tv from NextPVR (720p h264 passthrough AC3 5:1) ATSC is a lightly faster to start, this is from an HDPVR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-0D-825FUs

I will send some improved video when I have my HDPVR2 running.

I can get it in town for $100-115 CDN and that is a complete unit with remote case etc. On the XBMC forum it is pretty much regarded as the best cheap player right now, but I am sure better ones are coming.

  experience with pi
Posted by: reven - 2012-10-03, 10:58 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (74)

just a quick post about my experience with the pi so far.

setup

  • NPVR 2.5.9
  • RaspberryPI model B revision 1
  • RaspBMC RC5 downgraded xbmc to 0929 build
  • npvr addon build: sub3-xbmc-pvr-addons-573ca4d
  • DVB-S/S2 with FTA and encrypted channels using oscam
  • MPEG2 + VC1 license for RPI

what works well
  • SD channels, perfect, plays in sync, runs for hours without any issues
  • super easier to configure, just specify ip address

what doesnt work well
  • HD channels, stutters for a few seconds then just freezes and needs to be stopped. UPDATE: appears to be issue with raspbmc/rpi cant handle the 1080 ts files, cannot playback ones recorded by 4tr either
  • tuning time is pretty slow, takes a while to start a tv channel (maybe 5-10 seconds), not sure if this is NPVR specific or RPI specific
  • currently no signal quality in the XBMC stream info (pushing "o" button during live tv)
  • channel logos?
  • timeline in xbmc looks odd, doesnt have the grid lines/background colour on most entries (probably xbmc issue not npvr addon issue)
  • Add timer text is missing when you select a program in the timeline (probably xbmc issue not npvr addon issue)
  • when playing back a recording a error message saying "This channel cannot be played. Check the log for details." is shown, once you click "OK" recording plays normally.
  • Aspect ratio for SD channels is wrong, should be 16:9 but appears to be 4:3 and have to switch zoom mode to "Stretch 16:9"

i had a few setup issues, but that was just my specific setup and mostly around encrypted channels, but once i got past those NPVR was fairly easy to setup (most people wont be decrypting channels).

couple of feature requests
  • add a concept of "user" to nextpvr, in my house there is 4 adults and 1 kid, ideally i would like to have 4 users each with their own recordings/schedules. this is a complex issue, esp around conflicts and recording the same show, but will likely become more and more requested. i want my son to have a pi in his bedroom with his recordings (no access to game of thrones/dexter etc, just thomas etc). dont expect this anytime soon, but would love to see it one day
  • merge SD and HD channels into 1 channel. configure the client to "support HD channels", and if that is set to true, send the HD feed, if its set to false, send the SD feed. probably need an option for scheduled recordings too, "Use SD Source?" (default false, can always transcode recordings). this will be helpful for low powered clients that cant support HD streams, or if running over wifi and network cant handle HD

all and all im impressed, sub once again has done a great job in not a lot of time, xbmc addon is pretty solid and NPVR is pretty easy to setup (easier than mepo, 4tr and tvheadend IMO, all of which ive recently used)

thanks sub

XBMCBuntu Frodo / OpenElec generic with NPVR addon?
Posted by: reven - 2012-10-03, 08:04 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (9)

hi guys,

usually ive just used packages.pulse-eight.net and run their install-xbmc script to keep my xbmcbuntu machines running with pvr. but they are still on eden (v11) so need to update to frodo (v12) of xbmc.

so far im using a img from here http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/en/
and ive tried Build 10/01/2012 (32 bit Build) - sub3-xbmc-pvr-addons-262683 by KRA77 from http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/xbmcpvr.html

but whenever i enable PVR with NPVR addon enabled, xbmc crashes are restarts.

im trying to get two old HTPCs up and running with NPVR as backend (they were using 4tr before, but attempting to switch back to npvr, working great on my pis), so want a lightweight OS like xbmcbuntu or openelec, but cant find a build that works with these.

anyone know of a build of xbmcbuntu or openelec that will help me out?

TIA

if nextpvr.exe is left running, recordings don't show in tv guide
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2012-10-03, 12:09 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (16)

before restarting NextPVR.exe, note timeline is highlighted in red, but no shows are:

after restarting NextPVR.exe, no other changes:

this is a long-standing problem, but continues to annoy.
