  Patches???
Posted by: jfm - 2012-07-26, 01:38 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

I like npvr. I really do, but I find myself more and more going to Media Center and watching whatever is on NetFlix, because it's so much easier than dealing with npvr problems. I used gpvr for 3 years with nearly no problems and had a blast with it, but npvr is a different story. The skip problem, for example, makes recordings unwatchable, and I still do not know if it has been fixed. The patches page for 2.4.3 has 9 patches, and I have no idea if one of them would address the skip issue. And, do I need all 9? If not, can each be installed independent of the others, or are any prerequisite for any others. Then I see a post like this: "Not being mean, but what is the point of #1 and #3 when #4 replaces both?" Where does it say that 4 replaces 1 and 2? And why do the patch links go to another page instead of the patch file. Do you have to read all of those threads, too?

Yeah, I know, whine, whine, moan, moan. Sorry, I do appreciate all that npvr represents, but I have an awful lot of time in this - already 2 or 3 times what I spent on gbpvr over 3 years altogether - and I want to record and watch my dadgum shows. I guess not being able to makes me grumpy. The last two nights, I recorded Hannity, and somehow or other, npvr recorded the radio tuner signal for the audio. Go figure. I used to run comskip with gbpvr, but haven't yet had the guts to install it with NPVR. Same with xmltv and some enhancer or the other.

If there is a fix for the skip forward/back issue and someone could point me to it, I would be grateful. Taking little bitty tiny steps at this point.

Thanks.

New DB/cleaned DB for rebuilt system
Posted by: psycik - 2012-07-25, 11:37 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Is there a way of exporting tuning parameters/channel IDs, tuners etc, for say creating a new DB? Like the recordings-backup.xml

Or a way of taking an existing DB, removing the EPG/Recordings/playback details so that you don't have to rescan, assign an dredo all your channels?

System noise while graphics are moving
Posted by: wodger - 2012-07-25, 10:24 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

Ever since I upgraded my computer, OS and moved to NPVR (so I have no idea which new component causes the problem) I get an odd background system noise through the TV speakers when nvpr's graphics are moving. Not during playback, but just when dialogue boxes are opening and closing, and when I move the home menu left and right. It sounds like a whirring kind of noise. If I am deleting a lot of recordings from the same folder one by one, the pitch of the noise gets higher as the number of recordings in the folder goes down. I guess I could post a recording taken with my phone (haven't taken one yet) if anyone think it'd be helpful. Everything works, but this does get on my nerves.

  USB tuner slow to respond
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2012-07-25, 02:43 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I've noticed that my USB tuner is very slow to start. My USB HVR-850 (identified as an HVR-950 in the logs) seems to always take ~4 seconds to respond during the graph build process between the "Starting graph..." and "About to tune" lines in the log. In contrast, my PCIe HVR-1250 takes barely 100ms to start every time. The only time the HVR-850 starts quickly is if was in use for another recording and just stopped within the past few seconds.

Code:
2012-07-19 19:30:01.555 [INFO][13] Creating BDA graph 2012-07-19 19:30:01.569 [DEBUG][13] Using tuner WinTV HVR-950 BDA Tuner (1) .... 2012-07-19 19:30:01.630 [DEBUG][13] Starting graph... 2012-07-19 19:30:05.355 [DEBUG][13] About to tune BDA graph:
I immediately thought of windows power management, but the only device in the USB device chain that has a power management setting is the USB Root Hub device. I tried disabling power management there (the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox), to no avail. The tuner itself has no such setting.

Anyone have any ideas?

@sub: is NPVR doing anything else between those two log lines, or is that the point at which you make a call and wait for windows to do it's thing?

Alternatively can someone instruct the steps to rescan in case i am missing something?

  Export Recordings Error
Posted by: hasso - 2012-07-24, 07:53 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

When attempting to "Export Recordings" I get the error as per "error1.jpg". Clicking "OK" gives me the message as per "error2.jpg". I was expecting an export of all the recordings which doesn't appear to be happening. I did turn off the recording service before attempting the export as well without success.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

What I'm wanting to do is move my recordings from one drive to another ( from D: to F: ). It was my intention to export the recordings, move the files from D: to F:, change occurences of "D:" in the exported recordings xml file to "F:", and then reimport the recordings.

  How to import previous recording?
Posted by: cncb - 2012-07-24, 05:19 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

I renamed a recording outside of NPVR such that the recording was unintentionally removed from the NPVR database. I tried to name it back and restart the service but it did not pull the recording back into the database. Is there an easy way to "import" the recording back into NPVR?
