  Indoor aerials for UK Freeview
Posted by: bgowland - 2012-07-29, 06:10 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

We're moving in a couple of weeks time to a flat which only has a sat dish and cable services. Hopefully we can transfer our existing cable contract (which will be useful) but my npvr box only has DVB-T cards (4x Nova-T 90002 via a distribution amp) so I'm wondering about rigging an indoor aerial.

The nearest TV transmitter is only 1.5km away and research suggests we'll have good line-of-sight so I'm hoping reception will be good.

If anybody with experience of indoor aerials, PC cards and npvr has any advice I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,
Brian

Trouble controlling nPVR when it first starts
Posted by: dshoup - 2012-07-29, 05:37 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (14)

When nPVR first starts, the program does not respond immediately to commands, whether I use the remote or the keyboard,. For example, when nPVR first loads it brings up the main menu. I can hit “arrow down” several times, but the first menu item (Recordings) stays highlighted. If I hit “enter” it will go to the proper menu item (e.g., if I hit arrow down 3 times then enter, I the third menu item as I shold even though the first menu item was still the one highlighted when I hit enter). So it appears all the key strokes are registering properly, but the screen does not update for them.

Once I go through the keystrokes to load and play a file in the recordings section, I can stop the recording and everything works perfectly from that point on until the next time I load nPVR…then I go through it all again (I’ve gotten very good at memorizing the keystrokes needed to go into recordings and launch a programRolleyes).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the nPVR program, but I still have the same behavior. I am using Windows 7 64-bit on a i5-2500k Intel-based machine. Output goes to HDTV through HDMI output of an ATI video card (but I get the same behavior if I move the app to my LCD monitor on a DVI port). I’m attaching the logs in case it helps. Anyone have suggestions?

  Film "Downfall"
Posted by: mbhall1949 - 2012-07-29, 04:54 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hello,

I just joined this site in order to download one film - "Downfall" - 2005 German language film with subtitles in English.

1. How does this process work?
2. Is this a site where films are shared or is this a chat room?
3. Frustrated beyond belief.

  Olympics Opening Ceremony in 3D
Posted by: Lao Pan - 2012-07-29, 04:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Well I have just watched the Olympics Opening Ceremony in 3D that I recorded from BBC HD Freeview on Friday night and I must say that I was impressed Cool I had thought that 3D was a bit of a gimmick - and I don't think I would want to wear 3D specs all the time, being a glasses wearer. The Ceremony was definitely spectacular - pity the Athletes spoilt it by walking slowly Big Grin I had forgotten to put an hours extra post padding on and missed the lighting of the cauldron and firework display at the end
On a technical note , on screen display and menus are hard to navigate in 3D mode - how long before NPVR goes 3D, maybe a request for NNPVR (Next Next PVR)

  Recurring recording priority
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-07-29, 02:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (17)

I normally haven't used recurring recordings on multiple channels but my wife is interested in watching "The Big Bang Theory" and it is on 10 different channels on some many time choices that it is the best fit. The big plus is I will have lot of opportunity to record it, I'll be able to get 37 different episodes in the next two weeks alone without difficulty. I find however that when I set the recordings the tuner priority is not respected, it seems to match the first one in the data which is my lowest priority tuner. Does the proper tuner get selected at record time?

  losing SAT signal?
Posted by: airberger - 2012-07-27, 09:03 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

Hello all,

First hiccup with gbpvr/nPVR in quite some time - my HTPC has been running so smoothly for so long it's really a shock to suddenly have a problem I can't solve.

Anyway, out of nowhere my recordings from UK satellites now last 0-3 seconds before going black and then ending, with a final file size of 1-3 MB. I have a Hauppauge HD-S2 card for satellite recording. When I try to watch over Live TV it's the same situation - 0-3 seconds before it blacks out and returns to the menu along with a "the tuner being used for live tv is no longer available" message. The behavior is the same no matter which satellite channel I tune to. The satellite signal is fine, if I run the cable into my satellite box I get a strong signal and no problems with video. The NRecord log (logs are attached) indicate "Renew lease failed" which sounds like I'm losing the signal and not picking it up again, but I'm far from an expert here. The video is fine for the 3 seconds it plays but then vanishes.

I also have a Hauppauge HVR-1300 for OTA digital recording from German channels (I'm in Germany) - these channels record fine and Live TV works fine as well.

I've tried reinstalling nPVR (I'm on 2.4.3), uninstalling and reinstalling video card and drivers, as well as rebooting many times over, I'm not sure where to go from here. I have a feeling this is a hardware issue, but before I shell out cash for a new card I thought I'd see if this problem rang a bell with anyone, though I haven't found much through searching the forum archives.

Any ideas? I'm on XP (SP3) if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
Derek

  New to NPVR
Posted by: sicilian68 - 2012-07-27, 08:03 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I am new to the NPVR application. I installed and followed all instructions to the "T". After installation and configuration, I have three issues that I can't seem to resolve. 1. NPVR doesn't pull the channels from DIRECTV. How do I accomplish this without internet? 2. I used a grabber on a different computer and downloaded the channels into a xmltv file and imported it into the app, but when watching live tv, when I change the channel the picture doesn't change. They stay on whatever channel i have the receiver set to 3. there is an audio delay. Can you please help me resolve these issues?
My machine is a 3.2GHz P4 Core 2 Duo cpu, 2GB RAM, 2 - 250 GB hard drives, Win 7 Pro, ATI All-In-Wonder 512 MB PCI-e tuner card with Media Center compatible remote, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. The pc is connected to a DirecTV D-100 receiver via s-video.

Network Recorder Thanks and a Question
Posted by: mikeh49 - 2012-07-26, 11:30 PM - Forum: Add-ons (3rd party plugins, utilities and skins) - Replies (5)

First, thanks Martin for an absolutely solid program. I have been using it relentlessly this summer to record from the cable box via Sage GraphRecorder and firewire. Not a single problem. In the year it has been out, I think I have had only one problem recording, and I think that was trashy stream from the cableco. So, a big two thumbs up. This is a great way to record HD from the cable box if you have firewire, are willing to stay with 32 bit Windows, and your cableco does not flag everything as do not copy. In addition to Network Recorder and Sage Graph Recorder, the timmoore firewire drivers are rock solid.

Now, the question. If you recall several months ago, I asked about live TV problem on a "remote" system where the second rolling buffer file could not be written, thus stalling live TV. This is where a second box on the network running NPVR and Network Recorder is accessing SageGraphRecorder on a remote box. If I set Rolling File to false in the network recorder config.xml, there seems to be no problem. Any thoughts? Is there a significant drawback to not using the rolling file? When I researched this earlier, there was a difference in the file ownership between live TV on the main box and the remote box. I can provide the details if that would help.

Also, FWIW, I have poor skipping on either live TV or in progress recordings on the remote system; seems similar to what others have reported. Not a show stopper at the moment, though.

Letter from Verizon Fios - CableCard
Posted by: ElihuRozen - 2012-07-26, 03:31 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

I received a letter from Verizon that my CableCard might not have been properly activated. The letter said to tune to channel 131, which is their information channel. If you can receive the signal, you are all set. If you don't, you should have a screen with CableCard ID, Host ID, etc. When I try to watch on NPVR I get a black screen. I tried on MCE & it was able to display the channel. I have a Ceton InfiniTV & I can record & watch all the other channels. Did anybody else get this letter & try to watch 131? Does this mean I won't be able to record & watch on an NMT after July 31st?
