  Brand new, starting from scratch
Posted by: Jeep725 - 2012-06-03, 02:37 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hello,

I am so excited to be here. For weeks I had been scouring the web trying to find an alternate to Windows Media Center, when I stumbled upon Next PVR through the Hauppauge website. I have spent the past few days wading through the Wiki and the forums to figure out my plan of attack to ditch the dish and go strictly OTA, with a whole-home pvr and media server. (My terminology may not quite be up to par, I am still learning!) Although I fear I am several years behind everyone, as we have to acquire all of our hardware, and have no NMTs or MVPs, of which we will at least need 2. To me, as a noob, this was one of the most important features, to have the ability to have some kind of extender in lieu of a PC. (I am still researching this...as the suggested NMTs listed in the Wiki seem to be discontinued, but I'm sure I am missing something somewhere...)

Anyway, I guess there is not any question here (as of yet) but just a brief introduction and word of thanks for developing this product. I am looking forward to implementing and hope I can help out in this community at some point down the road.

If anyone has and words of wisdom, like "when I was starting out from scratch i wish I would have done __________" Thanks in advance!

On-the-fly transcoding for streaming recordings / videos
Posted by: bgowland - 2012-06-03, 01:07 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (6)

@sub - Related to this post by dark_half and my answer, do you have any tips for how I could rewrite my nDroid Service streamer to transcode video/recordings on-the-fly and any ideas for what to use to do it.

I'm assuming the .../transcode url for live tv transcodes to a buffer file but what tools are you using? Is it a custom directshow graph or are you using ffmpeg? Or something else?

Cheers,
Brian

  TV Guide controls
Posted by: Hankstone - 2012-06-02, 09:00 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I am new to NextPVR and have two questions I could not find answered in the Wiki or in a forum. How can I move beyond the initial screen in the TV Guide to a later time or date? Is there any menu to change the format of the recording (AVI, MKV)? I have been very happy with my initial recordings. Thanks.

  transcode
Posted by: dark_half - 2012-06-02, 06:20 PM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (3)

Does nDroid do any transcoding for live tv or recordings. I can not find any options regarding this. The players I have tried are having issues with stuttering. If I use Mxplayer to open a network stream with the following options it plays fine.

Posted by: SFX Group - 2012-06-02, 04:08 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi

I have 2 x Windows 7 x64 boxes, both vanilla builds with Direct X installs, using VMR9, everything works, its just i cant click the screen timeline bar to forward or back the playing video.

Anyone have any idea what’s wrong, used to work in XP (using EVR), both machines have a different graphics card (ones a laptop, the other a desktop).

How can I remove the delay of Hauppage WinTV-HVR 1850?
Posted by: yaomtc - 2012-06-02, 06:38 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I recently purchased and installed this TV tuner card, and found it has the same problem that the Colossus does -- by default, everything is delayed by a few seconds. As a workaround for the Wii with the Colossus, I simply use a component-to-HDMI converter from its component output to the second HDMI input on my computer monitor. But for my Super Nintendo and N64, I don't have this option, only S-video. Apparently this delay is due to hardware encoding, but it seems at least one person figured out how to get around it:

A Review on Newegg Wrote:Other Thoughts: To get rid of the 3 second delay for playing video games via a console, download an app called GBPVR and do the following:

1) In the Sources tab, choose Add, then set up Capture Source accordingly, I'm assuming you already know what's needed here.
2) Under EPG Source, you first choose an XML, like, config.xml, or a copied config2.xml, doesn't matter. Then, you click OK.
3) Now, you're back at the 'Edit Recording Source' prompt. Click 'Update EPG' and now, tah dah, you'll be able to add channels.
4) Add Channel No. '1' as a channel, with the name, for example, 'PlayStation 2'.
5) And finally, when this is done, again, you should click 'Update EPG'.
The problem is, this is for GBPVR. Would nPVR be capable of this too? Where do I find a config.xml? Will this even solve the problem?

TBS dual DVB-T2 card and HD channels
Posted by: hansol123 - 2012-06-01, 11:54 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (17)

I have the following cards installed in my PC Hauppauge S2 , Hauppauge Nova - T1 and a new TBS dual DVB-T2 card.

If I scan with the "A" part of the TBS card it does not detect the UK HD channels but if I scan with the "B" part of the card it does, and I am then able to delete the "A" channels and copy then from the "B" card. I can set say BBC HD and ITV HD which are on different muxes to record simultaneously.

I have tried disabling the Hauppauge T1 card from Windows just in case it was contributing to the problem and retried the scan process without success.

I note from a search of the web that there was a similar type problem with Windows Media Center which was patched.

Perhaps the card is faulty and I should return it to Amazon , or is anybody experiencing this type of issue.

Thanks

Maurice

Dual DVB T Tuner for NZ - New build spec thoughts.
Posted by: Billhilly - 2012-06-01, 01:04 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (35)

Capacitors are failing in my (five year) old computer. Time for the next one.

I have searched, and can see what some are using in the way of Dual DVB T tuners (in New Zealand), but I was wondering if we could get a bit of a consensus here. I was looking at a Hauppauge TD 500, but it seems that the correct one (for NZ) is actually the HVR 2210 right? Some of you are successfully using this card? I have been using dual Nova S's but the Wairarapa now has Terrestrial I believe. So I figure I should go that way?
Budget (?) build. Specs are -

Intel i5 3570K
Asus P8Z77-V LK
Kingston Hyper X 8GB
Asus GTX Ti graphics
Windows 7

Want reliability, etc etc. But what do you think? Would you change anything for better PVRing?

Thanks for your time and thoughts.

Bill

Time stamp messed up on recording 1 specific channel.
Posted by: trummel - 2012-05-31, 09:36 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (31)

I'm having a problem recording a specific channel on a DVB-S tuner. The channel is Horse and Country on Astra 28.2. If I watch it live it seems Ok. If I try and record it, it creates the TS file, but when I try and play the recording, the screen is just black and the time stamp is garbage. Other stuff on the same tuner seems to be OK. I've also tried on a different tuner and the result is the same.
It's particularly annoying because I'm having a problem with live tv freezing on some clients and the workaround for most channels is to hit record and then watch the recording immediately. Plus of course this is the channel that herself wants to watch all of the time!

I've attached the logs, if required I can upload a small recording.

Ta.
