Blasting an STB with translated channel numbers
Posted by: steeb - 2012-01-05, 11:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Dear all,

Happy New Year!

didn't know where to put this so thought I'd chuck it into "GD" thread for starters ...

Been thinking about this for a couple of years now.

Just wanted to check it wasn't me being thick (possible Big Grin )

I have DVB-S cards

I have an STB

For WAF with GB-PVR and now NextPVR in order to blast the correct channel number to the STB I always number all my DVB-S card channels to the same numbers as my STB (SKY UK)

I could use Alibert's brilliant TV Listings plugin and create separate guides for DVB-S cards and STB but once again this loses WAF.

I want 1 guide to do everything but am fed up using the numbers that Sky uses. I want something more tailored to how I like to use numbers.

Have I missed a trick all of these years by being a bit thick?

(Don't all jump at once at my stupidity ....)

If I haven't missed a trick am thinking about writing a simple in between exe utility to send to IRSS (that is what I use but guess it could be used in between any blaster.exe) to say "you selected channel 12 in NextPVR but now blast STB number 1 on channel 157" etc. Have been inspired by reading some of pBS' posts...

Please let me know what I have missed out by being tired grumpy etc

cheers and very best

steeb

New Install Audio Sync & EPG Problem
Posted by: imauser - 2012-01-05, 10:04 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I've had Windows 7 running with a HVR-1150 for a couple weeks now. Today I downloaded and installed NPVR 2.2.6. I really like the look and feel, but I've got a couple issues.

On about half the channels, the audio is way out of sync. In some cases a couple of seconds off. However it does seem to self-correct within a few minutes of being tuned to the channel, so it is liveable.

Also my card is ATSC and QAM. Only the cable is connected to the card so I did the QAM scan and it found all the channels that are available. However, no data appears in the EPG even for the channels that the scan was able to identify.

I've tried manually naming some of the channels and then updating the guide, but that hasn't helped either.

Can someone please provide some pointers for the EPG problem? Thanks

  Debugging Windows shutdown
Posted by: bgowland - 2012-01-05, 08:16 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

My wife's PC (XP Home Edition) has suddenly taken to 'sticking' at the 'Windows is shutting down' screen.

Are there any tools anyone can recommend to trace what's going on during the shutdown process? It doesn't seem like it's just being slow as I let it sit there for an hour last night before eventually hitting the soft power button to kill it.

Cheers,
Brian

Windows Audio - Toggling between 2.0 and 5.1 output
Posted by: imilne - 2012-01-05, 08:05 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Has anybody ever come across a (command-line) tool for doing this? Or better yet, know what registry settings need to be tweaked to do it?

UK Pal 4x3 dvd dont auto play back as 4x3 on 16x9 widescreen tv ( thru vga)
Posted by: UKChris - 2012-01-05, 04:37 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

I have installed the latest at this time of the software and also tried the final patches

My tv is a 16x9 wide screen.

problem - 4x3 dvd files on my pc under Videos - incl ripped ones from my dvd collection - auto show as widescreen

I have to use F7 or the right click menu that allows to set aspect ratio - auto set does the the job immediately for the film showing. But next time I view a (differnt) dvd I have to do the same thing. I have chosen auto in the main settngs in misc.

Any thing I have missed as I am new this?

Why would you need to use this to create an XMLTV file when NextPVR has DVB/ATSC EPG features built in?

updated setting record quality for HD PVR 1212, also renaming files
Posted by: sanjonny - 2012-01-05, 02:14 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

Sorry, searched and could not find the answer. Currently I can only get the pvr to record in 9mb mode meaning a 30 minute show at 720p is about 1gb. At higher res say 1080, it is much larger like 12mb or 1.3gb for half hour. I would like to try to compress my recordings to see if I can record some at a lower level instead of recording them, then re-encoding to save space. Currently, I take a 720p recording and re-encode to mkv of say 640 or 720p at about 220mb for 640 or 350 for 720p. But that requires running handbrake and re-encoding. I can set the recording speed using Total Media Extreme for manual recordings, but not for NPVR. I found an old thread that said to edit analogHD.ini, but that doesn't exist, so maybe that was in gbpvr instead.

I looked in config and found some settings but didn't want to mess with them until I heard what I could play with and not. Should I set the config.xml file to change the bitrate? I am sure other users are doing this, but I can't find out how. Please help if you know how. Thanks in advance.

  newbie question
Posted by: bushfilm - 2012-01-04, 10:42 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Hi all, just signed up and need a little help. I decided to build my own PVR since I have a pretty good Windows XP desktop lying around, but don't know which capture card is best. I would like to capture in at least 1080i resolution (I am currently on Direct TV) using the HDMI output from the satelite box, but don't want to be tied to computer. Can I use an HDMI splitter box to split HDMI from sat box into two feeds, one to TV and one to computer capture card? I will be installing new 1.5 tb Hard Drive so space shouldn't be a problem. Anyone have any suggestions about how I should proceed? Thanks for your help!

  VMR9 Renderers - What's the difference?
Posted by: R1Dave - 2012-01-04, 10:35 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I'm running NPVR on Windows XP and i have a choice of 3 VMR9 renderers. Can anybody explain what the difference is between them and is there a general recommendation on XP? Normal VMR9 seems to give me a letterbox picture for some reason.

By the way, i'm using ffdshow for all the decoders.

I'm sure the answer will be far more complex than the question but here's hoping..... :-)

(excuse the typo in the subject - obviously i meant VMR9)
