How to correctly configure HVR-2250 dual tuner card ??
Posted by: Kyle - 2010-09-17, 03:57 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Currently I have 4 capture sources configured for a single Hauppauge HVR-2250 card. I have an Analog and Digital source configured for Capture Card #1 and an Analog and Digital source configured for Capture Card #2. My understanding is I should be able to record 2 shows at the same time. Either 2 Analog channels, 2 Digital channels or 1 of each. Is this correct ? I'm getting failed recordings pretty often.

I have attached the logs. The Battle of the Supercars at 10:00pm and George Lopez at 10:30 both failed. I think I might have the capture card configured incorrectly but I'm not sure. I have a few failed recordings about 1 out of 5 recordings. Also, I have seen the GBPVR tray report it's recording something after the recording has already finished. For example, Nikita finished recording successfully at 10:00pm but the tray shows it as "Recording". Seems there is a disconnect someplace.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

  A giant leep in computing
Posted by: pcostanza - 2010-09-17, 03:20 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I just love seeing the word 'quantum' when talking about computers.

http://www.ft.com/cm...144feab49a.html

A new photonic chip that works on light rather than electricity has been built by an international research team, paving the way for the production of ultra-fast quantum computers with capabilities far beyond today’s devices.Future quantum computers will, for example, be able to pull important information out of the biggest databases almost instantaneously. As the amount of electronic data stored worldwide grows exponentially, the technology will make it easier for people to search with precision for what they want.

An early application will be to investigate and design complex molecules, such as new drugs and other materials, that cannot be simulated with ordinary computers. More general consumer applications should follow.

Jeremy O’Brien, director of the UK’s Centre for Quantum Photonics, who led the project, said many people in the field had believed a functional quantum computer would not be a reality for at least 25 years.

“However, we can say with real confidence that, using our new technique, a quantum computer could, within five years, be performing calculations that are outside the capabilities of conventional computers,” he told the British Science Festival, as he presented the research.

Computing’s great leap forward
Why quantum computing?

To make use of properties that emerge on an ultra-small scale. “Entanglement” – the ability of subatomic particles to influence one another at a distance – and “superposition” – the fact that a particle does not have a definite location and can be in several places at once – are the two most important properties.

Yes, it’s weird but why is it useful?

Because quantum particles can do very many things at the same time, unlike an electronic “bit” in conventional computing. The use of quantum particles, or “qubits”, permits parallel computing on a scale that would not be possible with conventional electronics.

What particles are you talking about?

Many scientists are working with atoms or ions trapped in ultra-cold conditions. But the latest discovery by the Bristol-led team uses photons – light particles.

How does a quantum chip actually work?

There are several models. The Bristol version sends “entangled” photons down networks of circuits in a silicon chip. The particles perform a co-ordinated “quantum walk”, whose outcome represents the results of a calculation. <br align="block">Of course, special software and input-output devices will have to be developed <br align="block">to make practical use of the device.

The breakthrough, published today in the journal Science, means data can be processed according to the counterintuitive rules of quantum physics that allow individual subatomic particles to be in several places at the same time.

This property will enable quantum computers to process information in quantities and at speeds far beyond conventional supercomputers. But formidable technical barriers must be *overcome before quantum *computing becomes practical.

The team, from Bristol university in the UK, Tohuku university in Japan, Weizmann Institute in Israel and Twente university in the Netherlands, say they have overcome an important barrier, by making a quantum chip that can work at ordinary temperatures and pressures, rather than the extreme conditions required by other approaches.

The immense promise of quantum computing has led governments and companies worldwide to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the field.

Big spenders, including the US defence and intelligence agencies concerned with the national security issues, and governments – such as Canada, Australia and Singapore – see quantum electronics as the foundation for IT industries in the mid-21st century.

  NEWA not scheduling recordings
Posted by: skreien - 2010-09-17, 02:26 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (6)

Hi everyone,

I have a saved search in NEWA called Wipeout. I have the checkboxes set for auto-search and auto-record, and in the config I have auto-search and auto-record both enabled. The search returns one show 4 days in the future. The shows aren't being scheduled though. Is there something else that I'm missing?

MVP Leftover Test Settings in config.xml?
Posted by: HarryH3 - 2010-09-17, 12:08 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I'm having my first go at NPVR now that Martin has made it possible to utilize my MVP's. While copying some of my MVP_Position settings from GBPVR I noticed that there are some settings in NPVR's config.xml that are already set for specific MAC addresses. Sub, are these just leftover vestiges of a late night testing session? Wink If so, is it safe to delete them? Here's the lines from the file:

  gbpvr with TechniSat CableStar HD2
Posted by: esther - 2010-09-16, 10:44 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hallo experts,
I started 2weeks ago to set up my computer for digital cable TV.
I implemented a TechniSat Cable Star HD2 in my
MEDION AKOYA P4331 IntelCore i5-650, win7, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, GeForce G310

Then I started with the program 'MediaPortal' because I found a walk through how to set up the computer for my cable provider ‘ziggo’ in the Netherlands.
I could install the card, found all channels but got stuck with the installation of the Mdapi-filter. So it is not possible for me to decode the tv-channels (I am owner of a valid card from Ziggo, working properly in a normal cable decoder)
Somebody gave me the advice to try it with gbpvr.
I downloaded the program, installed it easily, but can’t find my TechniSat CableStar in the configuration list.
Do someone has any idea how to solve that problem, or should I give up? Sad
greetings. esther

  "like" recording and re-scheduling
Posted by: Ton - 2010-09-16, 09:22 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hi,

Maybe it's my misunderstanding of the manual recording options, but I am testing with scheduling recordings with a "like" clause and see the following behaviour:

When I enter a manual, daily recording with a "like" phrase on a single channels, all shows available in the EPG at that time get scheduled. However, whenever the EPG gets updated, the shows get cancelled and they don't get scheduled again....

I have taken the following steps to re-produce:
a) Create a recording (see attached screenshot for details)
b) check that recordings are scheduled
c) run "nextpvr -emptyepg", to force a situation where new shows have to be scheduled
d) run "nextpvr -updateepg"

Logs are attached....

Anyone have any ideas?

  recording "all channels" and "like"
Posted by: Ton - 2010-09-16, 09:13 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi,

I've tried using this feature (available since the last release) and I have the following issue with it:

When I select "All Channels" when scheduling a manual, daily recording, I get an error, see attached screen-shots... It does work when I select a single channel for the recording.... I have posted two screenshots (details of what I entered and the error-message) and have posted the log-files...

I am running the standard download (no patches) and the standard skin (no hacks installed).

orignal air date, season and episode numbers

I noticed there is space for these in the database.

Assuming they come from the guide xml what is the preferred syntax for these fields and will NPVR do something with them (including writing them to the metadata?)

NPVR Fails to Read Information from EPG
Posted by: BrettB - 2010-09-16, 03:32 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (22)

I've noticed a couple of time now that NPVR will stop processing EPG files. I think that it happens when the channel lineup from Schedules Direct has changed. (There are either more or fewer channels, but the channels mapped from the EPG to the capture sources are all still there.)

Here's an excerpt from the nrecord.log file showing last night's "update":

Code:
2010-09-16 03:00:04.977 [DEBUG][8] About to update EPG 2010-09-16 03:00:04.977 [DEBUG][8] Updating EPG 2010-09-16 03:05:35.479 [DEBUG][8] Checking for any XMLTV listings 2010-09-16 03:05:35.479 [DEBUG][8] Will process xmltv file: C:\EPG\TVGuide.xml 2010-09-16 03:05:35.479 [DEBUG][8] Loading XMLTV from: C:\EPG\TVGuide.xml 2010-09-16 03:05:35.900 [DEBUG][8] channelEventLists.Count=0 2010-09-16 03:05:35.900 [DEBUG][8] Checking for any DVB/ATSC listings 2010-09-16 03:05:35.900 [INFO][8] UpdateAllRecurringRecordings() 2010-09-16 03:05:35.900 [INFO][8] Deleting existing pending season recordings

Notice that it says "channelEventsLists.Count=0" which is not normal. Normally it shows:
Code:

To fix the situation, I have to go into the config for the capture source, select a channel, and then reselect it's EPG source. Actually, I found that when I go into the details screen, the correct channel from the EPG file is already/still selected. At first I was opening the dropdown list, and reselecting the same channel. Then I discovered that I didn't even have to do that--just open then details screen and close it. BUT, this action only fixes that one channel. I still have to go through and open and close the details for each channel to get them all fixed.

  Empty recordings with Cyberlink Mux
Posted by: mad-marco - 2010-09-16, 01:24 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me me a small problem I currently have.

I recently reinstalled (not upgraded) the OS on my HTPC to Windows 7. Everything works fine and I can schedule and record TV programs using the default mux in .ts format.

Previously when I had Windows XP installed, I was using the Cyberlink mux and recording .mpg files which are easier for me to handle and convert. When I use the Cyberlink mux with my Windows 7 setup, the recorded file has 0 bytes and obviously does not play back.

Everything seems to have installed OK and the mux registered OK. I've tried to reinstall GB-PVR from the ground up, but no joy. Anybody got any ideas?

TIA, Mark
