  VMR9 no longer OK ?
Posted by: feniks - 2009-10-03, 11:49 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

since a fresh install of GBPVR 1.4.7 digital TV no longer looks good when played by VMR9. most channels often get distorted with higher levels of lightness or snapshots of other channels.
I discovered that EVR renderer doesn't have this problem and works great. however it takes a few seconds of stuttering to "catch up" when starting GBPVR app, then it works fine.

Are there any better video renderers that run with GBPVR?

  DVB Subtitles Out of Sync
Posted by: psicotron3 - 2009-10-03, 08:38 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I´ve notice two behaviors of dvb subtitles on my system are ahead of the speech. Is there an option to set a bit of delay for then?

Also, they only apper after I press the yellow button. Is this the correct behavior or I have something to do with my config for then to appear automatically?

  No sound since upgrading
Posted by: Silver_Fox - 2009-10-03, 04:31 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I upgraded GBPVR today from 1.2.13 to 1.4.7. Since then I have no sound, either on live TV or recordings. I have a Pinnacle USB stick, the PC 72e. Nothing else has changed.

Reverting to the old GBPVR, the sound is still gone. Any ideas anyone, please?

Set specific shows to record in a subdirectory?
Posted by: dshoup - 2009-10-03, 03:52 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (14)

Is it possible to edit the gbpvr.db3 data base so that a specific reoccurring recording records in a specific subdirectory? I like to put all my kids shows in a folder called "kids shows". I can do this manually after they record by moving the file then changing the path of the "filename" field accordingly in the RECORDING_SCHEDULE table of the database and then change the "sub_title" field to include the show name and the show's "name" field to be "kids shows" in the PROGRAMME table.

I want to know if I can do something to the record that designates the reoccurring recording to tell it to create a folder for the show in the ..\kids shows\ sub-folder instead of the default show folder. If so, what record needs editing (I see several records in the RECORDING_SCHEDULE table for each reoccurring show title...is it the Status=4 or recording type=5 or something else that identifies the record that controls the reoccurring program) and how would I modify it (i.e., would I change the name to "kids shows\???" or "\kids shows\???" where ??? is the name of the show...or is there some other modification that should be made)? Can I get GBPVR to automatically give the show the "kids shows" title so that it does not appear in the main list but rather all these shows get listed as "episodes" of the "kids shows" program in the recordings view?

Hauppauge 1600 BDA Channel Mapping Problem
Posted by: ToughRowToHoe - 2009-10-03, 03:25 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I'm not getting any channels on the scan. The scan reports negative 1000-2000 strength with 82-87% quality on many channels but does not pick up channels. I've tried using the various ini files in the BDA, 1600 sub-folder with no luck. This is on Fios. I can get the QAM channels via WinTV. I assume I'm overlooking something basic. Any thoughts?

Hauppauge DVB-S temporal noise filter issue ?
Posted by: hatterman - 2009-10-03, 02:04 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

Hi guys

About to buy a DVB-S card .... finally had enough my Hauppauge USB2 unit. Not being able to turn of the temporal noise filter is really, really, really beginning to annoy me.

Simple question really... do the Hauppauge DVB-S cards suffer from the same temporal noise filter problem that the PVR 150-250-USB2 units do ?

I know you can turn this off (or at least lessen it) via either the tweak tool, or christweak, or a registry hack... but you can't actually do it on the USB2 unit. To be blunt... it's a pile of crap because of this. Anyone who sees faces on the TV look like melting waxwork models when there is movement knows what I mean, that horrible and ugly smearing you get during movement. !!

So, am I going to have this problem with the Hauppauge DVB-S cards ?

Hope to get a few replies and see what the general concensus is.

Many thanks.

No channel name lookup after QAM scan
Posted by: vmq - 2009-10-03, 01:06 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I just updated to 1.4.7 and I was hoping that this feature

Quote:- at the end of a QAM scan it will ask the user for permission to query the Internet for additional channel information (ie channel names).
would find some channel names to make the mapping easier.

But it didn't ask me for permission and the scan window looks like below - no channel names.

Am I missing something?

My cable provider is Time Warner Cable in Brownsville, areacode 78520.

Volker

(logfiles, zipped after the scan, are attached)

Delete recording from client leaves files on server
Posted by: Exelion - 2009-10-03, 08:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

When I delete a recording from a client the show is removed from PVRX2 gui but the files are still on the hard drive of the server. The path to the recordings directory is \\Mediapc\Recordings. If I use that path in Windows Explorer I can delete the files so I don't think it is a permission issue. GBPVRRecordingService.exe , ports 7967, 7968 and 7647 are exceptions in the Windows XP firewall. The ts file is deleted but any additional files such as edl, log, logo.txt and txt files are still there after the delete.

The show I am deleting is D:\Recordings\WordWorld\WordWorld_20090923_08000830.ts

Can I watch one cable TV channel and record another?
Posted by: El Cid - 2009-10-03, 05:46 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (101)

Hello,

The cable company recently eliminated all our analog cable channels and is urging subscribers to get its set-top boxes in order to view the new digital channels.

I dislike this change because, when the Clear QAM channels get encrypted down the road, it will become impossible for us to view one channel while recording another (something we do several times a week), or to set multiple recording sessions on different channels while we're away. That is, unless we pay $16 a month for their DVRs.

We have had VCRs connected to each of our TV sets for years, they worked perfectly, and we used them all regularly. We could even take a tape from the VCR in the bedroom and simply pop it in the family room VCR, no problem. What we used to be able to do in three different rooms by just purchasing $80 VCRs that lasted a decade, we would now have to pay nearly $600 PER YEAR to accomplish (3 DVRs at $16/month). Even one DVR will cost us more to rent in a single year than what we paid for two VCRs that lasted indefinitely (and which we owned outright).

We find this unacceptable. Therefore I'm exploring alternative ways to do most or all of what we used to be able to do. I know that, for the time being, we can still receive and record Clear QAM channels without a set-top box (I have the right equipment), but the future of that looks ever more doubtful.

I'm wondering, then, if a PC equipped with a multistream CableCARD might do the trick. Remember that the idea is to retain the ability (a) to watch one channel and record a different channel at the same time, and (b) to schedule the recording of different channels when we're away from home. (Porting recorded media from one TV to another is something I'm willing to sacrifice, if I can retain the other two capabilities.)

So, can I do this in the GB-PVR environment, or is it an impossible or impractical proposition? Is there any other way to do it using the GB-PVR system? I'm no techie, but I'm not afraid of tinkering with my PC when motivated.

Thank you in advance for any help you might provide, and please accept my apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section -- I'm new here.

  Freezing Video in Live TV
Posted by: bad77z28 - 2009-10-03, 05:26 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Had no answers first time around.. Can anyone at least point me in the direction of what things to try.

Is it the mpeg decoder.. or renderer that I should be looking at?

Live TV freezes. I can pause and it will continue. Change channels and will freeze again in 10 minutes to 1 hour..

Happened after upgrade to latest version and got no help with last post.

Went back to previous version and is happening there as well.. but had no issues with previous install of gbpvr in years of use..

Logs included in my other post but can repost if anyone has a clue..
