I have a video playback problem on my new build, tearing and bad quality on pans etc. Common suggestion is to try other codecs, is there a list somewhere as apart from NVIDA PureVideo and FFDSHOW I can't think of any...?
Also, how can you tell if a graphics card like the ATI HD4350 is in "hardware decoding" mode. Do I need to have a supported codec for this to work?
I am attempting to use the Schedules Direct service to get data for my OTA capture card. As far as I can tell I set everything up correctly. I've updated the EPG and mapped the channels. I even tried clearing the EPG and updating again. However, the TV Guide still shows "no show details" for everything. I used TVG (separate standalone program that uses Schedules Direct) to confirm listing data is correct for my selected lineup, it just isn't showing up in the TV Guide. What am I missing?
Is it possible to directly boot into the GBPVR software from the PCH? When I first set up MVPMC, I remember having to telnetd to the PCH from a PC. Do you still have to do that? I currently connect from a shortcut in Swisscenter. I know that there have been advancements and am just curious if you could connect directly to GBPVR from bootup on the PCH now.

Upgraded GBPVR to 1.3.11, HDhomerun to 20090305a
I was getting 100% signal from the HDhomerun software and added the Hdhomerun to my bda.ini. Everything was going fine until I tried map my Hdhomerun EPG guide channels.
It shows: Initializing. Then when it changes to scanning ch 1 of 68 it gets the following error:

I am setting up a GBPVR client for the kitchen, and it now plays videos from the video library and live TV but it fails to play MP3s from the music library.
I have attached the logs and from them it would seem that Music Library is not finding a suitable D3D soundcard, although the soundcard in the PC is not great by anymeans it is certainly capable of playing MP3s as a quick check in WMP{ verifies.
On running dxdiag the sound test run fine untill it announces that the card does not support hardware buffering, is this the issue? that for music library to play MP3s I need to have a soundf card that can use hardware buffering?
Whats really strange of course is that many of the video files are using MP3 audio and they play just fine.
I've recently set up GB-PVR 1.3.11 with the Hauppauge HD-PVR (using the 1.0.5.031 driver from March 12, 2009) and I'm unable to get sound to work with Live TV.
I've confirmed sound with recorded TV as well as with Live TV if I switch the ArcSoft settings to AAC.
I tried added the <PreferredHDPVRAudioFormat>AC3</PreferredHDPVRAudioFormat> configuration parameter found in this thread but it seems to be ignored.
In my logs, I don't see any request for the PreferredHDPVRAudioFormat, so I'm not sure how it's defaulting to AAC.
I do get some ConnectFilters: Failed(2) when it's loading the HD-PVR:
I recently purchased an ipod touch. GBPVR is configured to transcode all recordings to an ipod format. My problem is that itunes does not monitor folders for new files that are created. I have to manually add them to iTunes. I have seen various 3rd part applications for monitoring music folders and updating the itunes database, but I am looking for one that handles videos as well. Is anyone using an app to handle this or is there a way to get itunes to monitor folders for new files (even Microsoft does that)?
I have a brand new install of gbpvr on my Thinkcentre S50 (P4 3ghz, 512MB ram, 350GB SATA HD, Hauppauge HVR-1600, NVidio Geforce 6200). Install went smooth and it picked up my channels from Schedules Direct.
What does work is searching for a program title.
I cannot browse the guide.
Watch TV results in absolutely nothing.
I have looked in the logs but, frankly, have no idea what to look for. I have looked at other sorts of logs (Linux and Windows system logs) and I see nothing obvious.
I have a source configured, but I'm assuming from my experience that it's wrong. Is there a succinct guide to setting up atsc viewing and tuning?
Is atsc viewing supported on Hauppauge cards? Wintv shows digital channels but it's pretty awful, like a series of stills with choppy audio.
If I threw a couple GB of RAM in, is there a chance it will solve my problems?
I've had a couple of cases recently where there was an apparent scheduling change of a show already scheduled to record in gb-pvr (via a recurring recording), and it didn't handle it well.
In one case, The Biggest Loser was originally scheduled from 8:00pm-10:00pm, and gb-pvr had scheduled the recording accordingly. at some point the show was bumped back to 9:00pm, to make way for an nbc special about death-defying escapes or some such (you know, car crashes, stunts gone wrong, etc.). the TV Guide was a bit strange - it showed a 1 hour block of the biggest loser at 8:00pm, but said it was from 8:00pm to 10:00pm (ie, visually the block was 1 hour, but the text said 2 hours). Then at 9:00pm it showed a 2 hour block of the biggest loser, but again the text said 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Finally if I moved to the 11:00 hour (news or something), and then back to the 9:00-11:00 block, the text time would be correct. the death-defying special never appeared in the TV Guide. gb-pvr recorded from 8:00pm to 10:00pm, the original schedule.
A day or two later, Lie to Me was pre-empted by American Idol for two hours from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Lie to Me was scheduled at 8:00pm for 1 hour. The TV Guide still showed Lie to Me at 8:00pm, and at 9:00pm it showed "No Show Details". gb-pvr recorded 1 hour of American Idol, but of course called it 'Lie to Me'.
(this in itself was no big deal to me, since I couldn't care less about American Idol, and Lie to Me wasn't actually on anyway... but let's say I had a recurring recording for both Lie to Me AND American Idol - even with two tuners it probably would not have picked up the second half of American Idol)
It appears to me from the behaviour that once a show is scheduled to record, it gets 'locked' in the database. if the epg data changes, the recording won't be adjusted; further since the TV guide draws from the same database, it won't display the new information either.
this doesn't come up very often I'd guess, only when there's a scheduling change after the epg data is first delivered and the recording is scheduled.

I've noted a couple of issues with MovieWiz memory usage I hope you can find some time to look at:
1. MovieWiz Plugin and Manager
Thumbnail images appear to consume their uncompressed bitmap image size. (e.g. a 100KB thumbnail can occupy 3MB+ of RAM). Thumbnails are loaded each time their entry is selected and never released. If like me, you have 500+ movies and each thumbnail is large, and want to scroll through each entry, MW memory use will exceed 1.8GB and unexpectedly fail.
2. MovieWiz Manager
Movie table memory is not released when switching from "Manage Content" tab to another tab. Further new memory is consumed when switching back to "Manage Content" tab for the same data.
Can you develop some smarts to avoid memory use getting out of control? Perhaps release oldest thumbnail memory after a certain amount is consumed?
MoviewWiz is now an essential tool in meeting my media centre needs. Please keep up the good work.
