Contemplating switching system, not very rich, but wanna get rid of aging e6600 (dualcore 2.4GHz). My everyday usage consists mainly of chatting and browsing the net, but I do play games and enjoy watching HD movies, and even encoding SD and HD rips.
The games I play pretty much only use 1 core, but I guess with time, more and more will finally use the full potential of multicore processors. As for encoding, a SD rip of 640x480 of 2 hours long, dualpass x264, takes me just over 2 hours to encode. Encoding in xvid or x264 uses all cores, so that's good.
Since I'm not a rich dude, and want to be able to do *at least* what I'm doing now, and more, I'm wondering which cpu to buy. For singlecore applications, the 3GHz seems great for the buck (wouldn't have to change my mobo), but encoding wise the quadcore, even though slower on ONE core, seems a much better investment (although I would have to buy a new mobo).
So, I get a lot of problems when my ATSC signal is not coming in well. Timeline mishaps, where the timeline gets completely screwed up and shows that the program I'm watching is 23 hours long, and FF stops working well, etc. I've cut a chunk out of a program that start with the timeline comppletely off. Ie, -560000 hours. I can't seem to upload it though. It's 5MB...
I've also got and epidsode of the simpsons that has a glitch in the middle. That glitch throws the whole timeline off. What I don't get though, is that MS Media Player just goes right through the glitch. It doesn't even pixillate.
GSpot tells me that for that file, I'm using the following:
(Src) ->> Cyberlink Demux (PDVD7) -> DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder -> Video Renderer
(Src) ->> Cyberlink Demux (PDVD7) -> MPA Decoder Filter -> Default DirectSound Device.
I've tried putting Dscaler and MPA as my Video and Audio filters, but PVRX2 still can't get past the glith without issues. I don't understand where the Demux comes into play, nor how I can set PXVR2 to use that instead. Also, I'm assuming that what GSpot tells me is what PVRX2 uses as "system Default," am I wrong about that? Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Video Decoder: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7) version 8.2.926
Audio Decoder: CyberLink Audio Decoder version 6.01.5803

I've been using gb-pvr for a long, it's a great programm! I've just installed the newest gb-pvr-software on my new computer but cannot connect it with my MVP! Hauppauge's MVP-Software works perfectly (finds the server), but GB-PVR doesnt!
With the gb-pvr-software, the MVP-Client cannot find a "streaming server" (screen: no streaming server found - press <OK> to rescan, i did that several times). i've set the "number of servers to autostart" in the gb-pvr-config to "1". Windows-firewall-settings should be fine (gb-pvr is excepted from the firewall) and hauppauge-mvp-software isn't runnign anymore.
Can anyone help me please to connect the mvp-client with the gb-pvr software? why can't it find the gb-pvr-server, but the hauppauge-mvp-server?
I'm about to buy a new motherboard, and found this one interesting:

It has an HDMI connector in the back (mobo comes with inboard video), but everywhere I look they don't specifically say how it's to be used. Asked some friends, they told me HDMI signal can go both ways so, I ask... can I capture HDMI feed with this?
(would be simple to unplug tv and plug pvr right into computer...)
Hi I have updated my older version of gbvr. I am able to watch my old recordings but I cannot now watch tv (or record anything new.) When I go to the tv guide I click on a program and click watch - the screen goes blank and then just reverts to the tv guide again.
Hauppauge Nova HD satellite card running under Vista.
I have set up ir.exe in the remote config screen and pressed the fix 48 button etc , rebooted PC but remote fails to work on Live TV or replaying recordings.
I recently upgraded and reconfigured my video library (MP4s with H.264 encoding)...I moved all my MP4s from a local hard drive (was my secondary drive, D on the PVR to a NAS. The NAS has a public folder called "Movies" which I mapped to a network drive (D(and yes, I removed the secondary hard drive) on the local PVR. In order to save GB-PVR some confusion, I created the folder D:\Movies (which is really \\192.168.5.97\Movies\Movies) and moved all my MP4s to that directory. Everything on the local PVR works fine...no problems.
However, the MVP is not able to access the movies. It can see the folder but it is not able to browse the folder's contents. I tried changed the GB-PVR service logon to an account with a username/pwd for the local PVR as directed in thread: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...work+share. I also created an account on the NAS with the same username/pwd (I don't think this was necessary since the NAS is a public share). However, the MVP still cannot see the movies.
Zehd : I put ZProcess in the title in case this is a ZProcess thing. I added an MP4 file to the local PVR and the MVP is able to play the file with no problems...so I know ZProcess is working...I just don't know if there are network restrictions with it.
Can anyone provide me with any direction? Maybe some specific steps as how to configure all the appropriate settings: services, NAS accounts, etc.?
Hi Sub, I've got a minor request for enhancement (or maybe it's a bug).
When in the Recordings window I can use the mouse scrollwheel to move the focus up & down the menu on the LHS. But when I move the mouse of the list over programs on the RHS, the scrollwheel does nothing, even if I click on one of the programs to make sure that list has focus. (So I have to click the little up/down arrows down on the bottom RHS of the list to scroll.)
I did notice though that if I double-click one of the programs (eg to play it or delete it), if I escape out of that screen, when the main list of programs is redisplayed, the mousewheel DOES let me scroll through the programs!
I suspect this may not be a GBPVR thing but actually a .Net thing. I'd be interested in what you can confirm...
I don't know what I have changed (maybe Windows Update) but for a couple of days I'm struggling to get my TV working again. I'm using 1.3.11, but I have tried to go back to 1.1.5 and the same happens. Whenever I go to Watch or Live TV, it returns back to the TV Guide. When I schedule a recording no file is being created. I cannot make any logical connection what might be causing it. My Plextor PX-TV402U tuner works fine with VirtualDub and InterVideo WinDVR 5, it just stopped working with GBPVR. I have also disabled my XP firewall to take it out of the equation.
Please help, I'm beaten.

I'm finally getting time to setup my client for the living room. (just been really busy lately with no time to play! )
I got the operating system loaded (Win XP SP3 on both the client and sever) and GBPVR loaded up. However I can't stream anything to the client. If I choose file share then I can watch the recordings and video library but I get a black screen when trying to watch live tv.
I read the wiki and I believe I have all the proper directories shared and stuff and I've disabled the firewalls on both the server and client but it didn't help.
I'm going to try and tear into it further tomorrow after work, but I was wondering if there is some common things that hang client / servers up that I should check for?
I'm wondering about my router, I think it's got a firewall in it too. Could I just run an ethernet cable between the client and server to bypass the router for a test? (probably need a crossover ethernet cable to do that? I just bought a pair of rj-45 crimpers and a tester so that'd give me a reason to play with them! )
