Is there a way to play live tv (or switch channels) in an inset. So far, when I've tried, the .StartLiveTV() call opens full screen even if I immediately follow it with a ShowInsetAtLocation call as follows:

Windows Update is wanting me to install SP3 for XP (Pro). Will it cause any problems for GB-PVR/PCH/HD-PVR?

I'm hoping someone can help me with configuring Vista/GBPVR Directsound.

This is with reference to GBPVR Playback audio renderer used for Freeview|HD AAC and AC3 audio.

I've got a "Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS" soundcard with inbult SPDIF DD/DTS hardware decoder that I wish to take advantage of. The problem is Vista does not automatically route the software decoder (AC3 filter) SPDIF output to the Directsound:SPDIF renderer, and instead GBPVR must be explicitly configured to use that audio renderer. However, GBPVR also uses the same specified renderer for the MPEG2/AAC software decoders, hence the decoder PCM output is also sent to the Directsound:SPDIF renderer with consequently no sound output as the hardware decoder does not support PCM.

Vista Sound configuration allows you to define which audio renderer is the global "Default Directsound Device" and ties the master volume control to that renderer, but this does not appear to automatically route decoder SPDIF output to the SPDIF renderer, AND route other decoder PCM output to Speaker renderer.

Ideally, I want GBPVR Playback to use:
AC3 Filter to use DirectSound:SPDIF renderer
MPEG2/AAC decoders to use Directsound:Speakers renderer

Any ideas how I can do this?

As I got Cyberlink PowerCinema with a Hauppauge Nova HD S2 card, I thought I would install it and give it a whirl - it retails for $149 on the Cyberlink website!
I so quickly noticed it's shortcomings compared to GBPVR & its sheer lack of configurability....
You can't knock the look of it - it is very polished, but on so many points it is inferior to GBPVR, like only playing certan file types, no control over decoders used, no prologic surround sound available (unless you pay more).
One of its selling points is that it comes with an EPG service over the internet - which I thought would be useful for sat channels. But it turns out the free version it comes with only gives you a handful of channels, and even if you pay more you only get the missing Freeview ones - no satellite. Like earlier builds of GBPVR, you can't watch any of the sat channels it finds unless they are in the EPG. I spent ten minutes scanning in the available channels, another ten playing with it and then hit the delete button!
It really highlighted to me how great GBPVR is. Hmm - about time I contributed again...
*I did like the photo slideshow animations though. Either they copied it from Vista Ultimate, or vice-versa, but It totally transforms the usual static image slide-show when the picture is zoomed in, zoomed out, panned up, down, left, and right. One for the wish list, I think.

Hi all. I just recently decided to give New life to a old pc i had. I upped the ram to 1 gig (was 256mb) and want this to become a Media Center pc.

Currently the pc specks are
Intel Pentium 4 @1.80Ghz
1 gig of ram
Dont know what the Video card is.. (didnt show in dxdiag.exe)
50Gig internal HD, 120 gig external HD.

I just re-formatted and re-installed Windows on it.

All I did so far to the pc was
Updated it through Microsoft Update.
DL'ed IE7.


I am planning on shareing the pc's HD or letting my 750 Gig external drive connect to it to play movies.

Will gb-pvr support ".MS-DVR" filetype?
What decoders do i need? And where to download them?

I am also using a semi-old (1 or 2 year old) analog Tv Tuner. It works great on my Vista Ultimate pc.

Edit: Just tried to install GB-PVR latest update. And i got this.
"Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\ Devnz\GBPVR\GBPVRWRITER.ax failed to register.

i rewrote the shutdown plugin to work with the PVRX2 gui. version 2.8 does _not_ work on the old GBPVR gui anymore.

PVRX2 does not support VideoPlugins at the moment, so the sleep timer cannot be invoked with the remote while watching Live TV, a recording or a DVD. It has to be started within plugins menu (by either hitting the Sleep button or the 'GO' key (F11) on your remote).

There are some threads here, and a plethora of them on the rest of the net, all of which are inconclusive.

I have 2xdvb-s cards and on a regular basis I have to copy all recorded TV from one drive to another to get the fragmentation down to a level where it doesn't interfere with playback. Currently my most fragged show has over 35000 pieces and plays like a one handed juggler on P; OK for a bit, then some frantic bounding around to collect the pieces and start again.

Has anyone found a satisfactory work around for this? I was thinking of setting aside a temp partition with a few G to record to, then a batch file to copy it where it should end up.

I thought I'd ask around though to save re-slicing the loaf.

I've inserted some recordings with vidimport into the main database. They show up when using the sqlite browser and they show in the recordings section of PVRX2. They play and everything is great until the next morning when they're gone.

What is removing them? Is it related to what goes on at the UpdateEPG time? They are inserted as corresponding to a channel that I don't have set up - is that why?

A related question that arises after looking at the gbpvr.db3 data is what determines the group title for a group of recordings. Does it come from the folder name? Does it come from the leading part of the title of the recordings? It looks like the recordings are kept in RECORDING_SCHEDULE and are grouped by recording_group.

I hope this is the right area to ask this. It's more of a "How does the pvrx2 database work?" than a how do I fix vidimport type of question.

Some research points me to metadata.xml Is this where the recording group title is kept?

A little background. A few months ago I installed 1.2.9 which I am very satisfied with, with the exception of HD viewing. I have either some serious stuttering going on OR I get very pixelated video OR audio and video sync issues. I played around with many different audio and video codecs as well as a few different muxers. Always getting one of the above situations but never able to get acceptable results...again only with HD via a HD Homerun box.

A couple of days after 1.2.13 was released I tried an upgrade. I don't remember exactly what issues I had but I remember encountering several problems. I then uninstalled and did a fresh install of 1.2.9 and went back to my old problems with HD. Since then I really haven't had much time to try and fix these old problems and want to avoid any additional frustrations of trying to get 1.2.9 to work properly with HD.

It sounds as if most of the problems people were having with 1.2.13 have been fixed via some recommendations on threads on this forum...i.e. changing ".../settings/BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnLivePreview : true" in the config file, among others.

So before I try to upgrade to 1.2.13 again, I want to know if most people are having good luck with this upgrade or are there still some glaring problems to be resolved?

Can I reasonably expect that some of my HD problems have been resolved in the latest and greatest release? From the sounds of it, this is the case.

I know that I need to backup my current config file but what else do I need to consider before attempting to upgrade again? Any way to keep my plug-ins and their settings intact?
