For some reason, channel changing stopped working. It was working fine but the past few days I've missed recordings because it didn't change channels. I haven't changed anything (famous last words ). I'm using hipsend and hip and it's a gen-you-wine Microsoft remote/blaster. I see in the log where it says it ran the command (2008-04-07 19:59:13.778 VERBOSE [7] Running: C:\Junque\HiPstuff\HipSend.exe 62) but nothing happens. If I paste that command into a cmd window, it works fine so I'm pretty sure hip is configured OK. I have the 'Allow service to interact with desktop' box checked for the recording service. I don't see any errors anywhere. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
This morning, I heard some music coming from my study - turns out that VLC had started playing one of my recordings out of nowhere.
This evening, I went upstairs & noticed that VLC was up on the screen just sitting there.
For now, I've closed all the ports on my firewall. SuperAntiSpyware or AVG haven't turned up anything & I don't see anything suspicious in the event viewer.
I'm also posting this over at videolan.org, but wondered if anyone here has seen anything like that...
This is low priority but a future suggestion for improving GBPVR installation and configuration - especially for noobs, but also everyone.
There are a lot of settings in the configuration GUI and it might be very helpful to have a Tool-Tip popup (on hover) with some brief help statement (like purpose, example values). So for example 'Minimize OSD During Playback' might have a tool-tip like <Optional - For older/slower systems enabling this option may improve video smoothness by reducing the amount of On-Screen Display menus and related graphics>.
This might make the install and configure experience a lot more smoother for many users - especially noobs. It might also save a lot of needless posts and support requests. It may also improve the layout and design of GUI controls because the individual control labels can be shorter.
I know the wiki and forums are always available but you can never make these things user friendly enough for the masses - plus new config settings continue to come with new releases.
Anyway, just a future suggestion for consideration that might make the software even better. (I am also assuming this would not involve a huge effort, but I don't really know if that's true) I would certainly be willing to help with the individual wording of tool-tip help text entries if that would be of any use.

If someone could tell me where the version number and current build of the EWA I'm running is located in the EWA that would be helpful.
If this info is not available, then could the authors of this fine program, place the current version number and build that a person is running in a conspicious place, maybe right next to the server clock time?
I'm not complaining, but every now and then I see ways things can be enhanced. I hope you don't mind.
My wife works at a small business that wants to run a particular piece of software on remote machines but only install it on one desktop and have the other's run it from there. VNC is pretty slow over windows. They aren't going to buy a windows server.

Can I use eventghost with the hauppauge remote? If so, what is the plugin name or type?
It's working fine without eventghost, but EG seems to be the easiest way to get it to do mouse emulation and it can't do that currently with hauppauge on its own.
I'm having loads of problems with my Blackgold 6-in-1 card not working reliably after standby/resume, so I'm looking to replace it with something else. Can anyone recommend a dual-tuner DVB-S card which works well, in the UK? I'd rather avoid Hauppauge after nasty experiences with the 350 etc cards...
