I start with MVP Position default (640,480 etc), then do the yellow box thing with the plugin, input new numbers in cnfig, validate. Restart config, then I go into GBPVR again and the MVP is NOT centred, (looks-wise) and also when I check the yellow box. So I recentre, and get a new set of numbers. I input these and do it all again .... why doesn't it keep the original centred yellow box (and why isn't that even centred wrt the TV?)
I'll try to make this short - I tend to end up typing long winded posts..
I've used media center for about 3 years - I've been running it on my 'main' pc in my computer room with an xbox 360 in the living room as an extender. My girlfriend lives with me, and while she's fairly tech-saavy I do not want to have to come in and fix crashed PVR programs or anything. MCE was perfect in that aspect - she knows how to schedule recordings, etc etc.
However, my 360 recently started giving the infamous "red rings of death" - no big deal since I have the best buy replacement plan and want blu-ray anyway. So, I setup an extra pc just to find out that you can't use a PC as an extender!
Therefore, my options are: 1) use the extra pc as the main DVR and lose the ability to schedule recordings or use the guide on my computer room pc - unacceptable 2) pay the extra $10 a month for a comcast dvr box w/ ondemand, HD, and all that jazz for the living room 3) find a different DVR solution
I decided to look at what else is out there before breaking down and going with comcast and after perusing the various forums I decided to give GB-PVR a try.
However, I'm having issues with the EPG source - I've signed up for a trial with SchedulesDirect but get a "The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." I assume my account isn't active yet w/ SD..
So... while waiting for my SD account to start working... any suggestions? What made you go with GB-PVR now that MCE is so easily obtainable? Is it possible to "set it and forget it" like with MCE? (i.e. ever have crashing issues and such?)
Well the install seemed to go smoothly with config popping up when it was done, but now the MVP just sits there with that infernal blue screen. It's either trying to contact the bootserver or loading application. I've been around in circles it seems and now all it does is look for the bootserver.
The firewall was cofigured before and working fine with gbpvr and the mvp. I'm not now getting any popups from it when powering up said mvp. Exceptions are set for the MVPs ip address and pvrx2, the mediamvp gui server, the recording service and the tray are all OK to do business according to the firewall (zonealarm freebe btw).
I'm restarting the box for one last round of farting around but the logs will follow in my second post. Hopefully when I go back in there it will have sorted itself but I hold out little hope of that.
The MVP is the key to the whole pvr for us so it not working is going to create all kinds of hate and discontent.
I love the MovieWiz plugin but have not been using it much since I have been moving files around and deleting the database and such and everytime I try import movies using mpegimport (found here on the wiki) I have found that 100's of my files have the subtitle replaced with a date....
This makes it a task to import into moviewiz since the search is a date only and i have to manually input the name of the movie into moviewiz so that it can search.
example
<filename>F:\record\Race With the Devil (1975) [PG]_20080207_02400415.mpg</filename>
<channel>500gig</channel>
<status>READY</status>
<startTime>2008-02-07 02:40:00</startTime>
<endTime>2008-02-07 04:15:00</endTime>
<title>Race With the Devil (1975) [PG]</title>
<subtitle>Recorded on 2/7/2008</subtitle>
<description>imported</description>
</recording>
I have just tried editing the recording.xml that mpegimport creates before writing it to PVR2X and I am wondering if anyone know of any tools that can automate or make the job easier?
I want the subtitle to display the title instead of the date so that I can auto import the files into moviewiz easier.
mpegimport is great because it writes any movies you have in directories quickly into PVRX2 and most of my files imported through mpegimport do not have the subtitle problem but the couple hundred that do makes it very challenging to import them into moviewiz
Having wasted hours trying to upgrade to the current version which kept on crashing when executing the program. , I uninstalled the previous version deleted directory and re- installed, I now find that the config program crashes when it is searching for channels. I restored the previous config backups but program still crashes. Iam using a Hauppauge Nova T card on Vista business. I have updated the card's drivers and Wintv works fine. I have run out of ideas .

Hello all
Just got around to upgrading to the new version on the main machine and noticed that when I ran gbpvr that I did not have the 60 sec skip fw or 30 sec back. I would press the buttons on my mce remote and it didnt do any thing. I checked the keyboard shortcuts and they still worked and I checked in pvrx2 and skip fw/back works there. I'm really confused why this would happen, any thoughts?
Thanks
WARNING: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. BACK UP YOUR BDA.INI BEFORE USING.
I created a utility for adding devices to the bda.ini mainly for readding my HDHomeRuns after upgrades but you can use it to add any bda device. The "Analog" and "Analog HD" tabs are non functional. If someone else wants to add those features, the source is included.
To use, place the extracted folder in your "devnz\gbpvr\Third Party" folder and run the exe. Vista users who have not disabled UAC will need to "Run As Administrator".
All fields are read-only until you click "Edit". Clicking "Add" will pop up an input box for you to enter the device name. The device is then added to the list in edit mode so you can enter the appropriate settings.
Selecting "Save" will copy the existing bda.ini to bda.ini.sav and write the new bda.ini immediately. bda.ini.sav will be overwritten if it exists. If you select/add another device before saving, your changes to the current device will be lost.
The list is displayed and saved in alphabetical order of the device name. If you just want to sort the bda.ini, simply select "Edit" on any device and then select "Save" without making any changes.
HDHomeRun users:
When adding a device, use a name that ends with "HDHomeRun XXXXXXXX-Y" or "HDHomeRun Tuner XXXXXXXX-Y" where XXXXXXXX is your device id and Y is the tuner number. The appropriate settings will automatically be entered and you can simply select "Save" or "Cancel".
I have been playing around with silverlight and I love it. Is there any interest out there to start a new web access that is silverlight based. My main reason is that silverlight does streaming video embedded in the application.
I think it would be brilliant some day to move the entire pvrx2 to wpf so that we could build a web/win client that would work and operate off of almost identical code.
Suite-wide tweaks (please upgrade all components) Manager now included in Download (still optional)
Further tweaking of Ep Info gathering. Eliminated still more redundant downloading, better parsing (catches more info)
Enhanced logging, now includes summary in the log.

It's interesting to see how in 25000 records, there are only about 4200 records that have episode information. I guess you can have hundreds of channels and there's still nothing good on...
Edit: Redid the stats for this post, and released the Enhancer. I wasn't happy with the way the numbers didn't actually add up
